Black Tie
My college freshman daughter was invited to a black tie awards dinner. The dinner for my cousin that's a commander in the Navy. The event is taking place in D.C. (where my daughter goes to school), should she wear a gown or can she get away with a cocktail length dress? My aunt is wearing long gown and my uncle is wearing a tux.

I'd do a gown. You can find some reasonably priced ones on Amazon- I actually just got one for a costume which was actually really love for $40.

I always say cocktail dress when people ask about black tie weddings, but for this, GOWN all the way!

Thanks everyone. I'm not too sure why but I thought wearing a gown to event like this was something that older women would wear.
