Power washing driveway and sidewalk
Why do people do this? What's the point?
About twice a year the guy across the street spends a few days power washing his driveway and sidewalk. I'm in between semesters at work, so I am home a bit. This is the third day in a row he's doing it and the noise is driving me mad .

Power washing driveway and sidewalk
I wish more people would do it, especially in NYC. It keeps the place looking clean and presentable.

Keeps all of the garbage and debris from going down the storm drains.
I don't powerwash my driveway, but I do powerwash some of the block walls and steps around the front of the house. They look dirty and dingy after a while. It looks a lot nicer after they're washed.

The streets that do not have sweepers (like my neighborhood) are FILTHY. All the dust and debris just gets kicked around the air. The landscapers just add to the shit with their blowers. It never gets picked up, just blown around.

So where does it go when they sweep it? Are they sucking it up? I see it just getting pushed around

It's *supposed* to be a big vacuum, and the brushes are supposed to push the debris to the center of the truck, and there is a vacuum that sucks everything up into the truck.
By me, in suburbia, it's mainly for getting the leaves away from the storm drains. It does work, and it makes a noticeable difference.

Those that power wash, how long does it take you? This guy has been at it for about 6 hours a day for 3 days. Isn't that excessive?

Unless there's absolute filth, sounds crazy to me.

Maybe he's anal ? When the guy behind me power washes his deck and backyard, it takes him about 3 days. It's a small space, just the way he is, clueless. Took him 3 years to build the deck, another 2 to build the railing, and going on 7 years for the canopy over the deck. This is working every weekend on it.

Yeah, that's crazy. I usually spend one tank of gas, which is an hour or so, I think?

Re: Power washing driveway and sidewalk
He may have a ****** power washer. It takes DH 2 days to power wash our house, shed, and entire PVC fence around our property and we have a decent one. He wants to upgrade to an even better one lol

But that's a lot of surface area to wash, so it makes sense. Just a driveway and sidewalk shouldn't take anywhere near that long, unless it's either very low pressure, he's using the wrong nozzle, or he doesn't know what he's doing.
Especially if it's twice a year.

Re: Power washing driveway and sidewalk
To give you a better idea here is a photo:
Sorry it's sideways!
The driveway is made of stones and he just sits there and goes in between each crack. You can kind of see the sidewalk in there and you can see it's not big.

Re: Power washing driveway and sidewalk
We do our driveway and sidewalk.. but I admit I'm OCD and in between the pavers drives me insane. It takes us a couple days to do driveway, front stoop, deck, fence and siding.. but 6 hours to do the driveway, I even find insane and I'm pretty crazy lol

Yes also for picking up crap when people litter.
