I'm considering changing to prn (as needed) at my job which would mean I'd no longer have insurance through them. Where's the best place to look for health insurance. If you have your own, how much do you pay?

I get mine directly through Empire B/C B/S. Pay almost $600 a month. Just found out they will be dropping that plan the end of the year so I will need to pick something else.
What is PRN? And can I ask why you would drop the insurance through your employer?

With prn they call you in as needed. I would no longer be a full time employee so I wouldn't qualify for health insurance.

I'm pretty sure you can't purchase health care on your own without going through the exchange programs or you can only purchase from the insurers listed on the exchange. They are slowly dwindling down as well. Only companies with a certain amount of employees or higher can go around the exchange directly to the insurers themselves. DH and I own our own small business. None of our employees need insurance (Get through their spouse or are young enough to be on parents plan) so we had to go through the exchange But from what I am told by our financial advisor, who also handled our health insurance, the plan we currently have will no longer be available come November 2017. Being in Suffolk county, we have very few choices and because of that, I have started to look for a job that offers health coverage.
Look into your options BEFORE changing your job. Good health coverage is so important and hard to come by.
There is a # on the exchange website you can call and get info or they will give you someone local to contact to see what your options are.
Plus depending on your income, the coverage is just for you or your family - you could be paying A LOT more then you pay now. For just DH and I, it's just under $1,700 per month with high co-pays
