Checking in again from Texas
Gas Shortage is true.
So we are out of gas and the lines are getting out of control. But you can find gas you just have to pay ridiculously high prices for it. Got folks in Dallas saying they are starting to see it too.
Some reports say it will be months before we recover but we shall see.
ETA: gas ran out across from my office yesterday. Prices went up from under $2 last Friday to over $2.50 today.

I do love how they say they don't HAVE a gas shortage but sure can't find gas LOL meh. I'm not rushing out for gas though.
I'm in a rental since someone rear ended my car. I have a full tank in that one! :)
I don't think this will last honestly

Definitely get gas when you can. It was scary here in NJ when Sandy hit.

Checking in again from Texas
After sandy was AWFUL with gas and prices were OUT OF CONTROL. One station was a flat $20 cash only for 3 gallons. With lines lasting HOURS I never want to relive that again. Hope you guys are doing ok there!!

I'm over 3.5hours from the area of landfall. I have no complaints.
Grateful to help where we can. This gas thing is a bit nutty but we'll get through. Push comes to shove we'll carpool. But no one is willing to pay crazy gas prices for the sake of just because.
What's sad is the folks here trying to get home (those who came here to avoid the storm) have to gas up to get back and those who need the gas to run generators for boats etc to run other items as they go down there to help.
We are seeing caravans of help passing through our city (I-10) heading towards Houston and the coast. We're the last major stop on the way to both Corpus (I-37) and Houston. So I'd rather let them have the gas.

Re: Checking in again from Texas
After Sandy gas lines were absolutely a thing where people waited hours to hope they could get gas. I remember going into a station that had just gotten a delivery. I was the second person on line and by the time I left the line had about 80 cars on the road.

I think they instituted the odd/even plate days to get gas. I feel like they had just instituted it and then things got better so I never had to do it

Re: Checking in again from Texas
After Sandy, ugh. My Dad and I had to switch cars because I couldn't get gas. He wound up driving about 40 miles upstate at 5 am to get my car a tank of gas. A friend of his had texted that there was gas and no lines but to come right away as people were starting to realize. And he told my dad not to tell a soul as his wife and kids were on the way up to get gas. What a nightmare!

Checking in again from Texas
So.. almost a week later and still no gas in the stations. I'm beginning to think it wasn't a hoax like the media tried to say it was. LOL
No such thing as fake news? errr.. uh. yeah about that
When a trucker arrives with gas the lines that pile up go down the highways. When they run out, they run out. My rental is still on the same gas I had before. According to the readings I have about 50 miles left and it's 14mi each way to work so this should be interesting.
They say that the trucks will start arriving this weekend.
We can't exactly escape to get gas here. Again we are literally HUNDREDS of miles away from the landfall area. hundreds and hundreds of miles in some cases. San Antonio is in perspective the distance of Sheepshead Bay to Yonkers, almost 450 square miles around.
San Antonio to Houston is like driving to Philly.
Next closest major town is Austin and it's affected too. I'm lucky that I live on the extreme north side of San Antonio so Austin is closer to me. Problem is it's about an hour's drive which currently may exceed my gas boundaries. It's getting interesting down here, that's for sure.
Might have to sneak into my old college town and find some station there.
Meanwhile ... all Girl Scouts of Texas (like the whole state) are banning together to support our sister scouts in the Greater Houston and Coastal Areas and their support of their local communities. Kind of nice to know.

Re: Checking in again from Texas
Oh man...When we had the gas shortage, people from work were actually carpooling and alternating who was driving. DH walked with our neighbors (didn't want to drive and use gas) to fill the little gas jug we use for the lawnmower and was gone about 5 hours. He never got the gas! The station ran out while they were there. He was so pissed! He was like I understand how people get into riots over gas.

Yep. You take it for granted. You take for granted that you pull up to any of 100 gas stations and there is gas. It is very scary when there isn't. I remember conserving and working from home like crazy after Sandy. My DH had an old car that was out of commission at the time and we were thinking of siphoning some gas out of it to get by if we had to. Then they implemented the odd /even plate days to get gas and then luckily it ended shortly after that. But you feel so helpless

I don't get why they wait so long to implement the odd/even days. I assume that has to help the gas lines and people getting a better chance to get gas!!

Re: Checking in again from Texas
It was weeks for gas shortages up here during Sandy. We had filled up both tanks before hand, but I remember how bad it was.
