After midnight and neighbors dog barking and howling for the past hour
My next door neighbors haven't been home all day. It's now 12:45 am (middle of the night) and all I've been listening to is their poor dog barking and howling. The dog is inside the house though.
What can I (or should I) do? My daughter can't sleep, neither can I. This poor dog.
Help!

thats so sad, the poor puppy
I know its hours later...did he stop? Maybe something happened and thats why no one was home?

I sent the neighbor a message on Facebook around 2am asking if everything was ok. Turns out they're away. Seems the person who is supposed to be taking care of the dog is doing the bare minimum (or nothing at all). The dog stopped around 3 and started back up around 7:00. I'm exhausted.
I hope it doesn't happen again tonight. I might offer to take care of the dog myself at this rate. I was ready to call the police last night.

thats awful
they trusted someone to spend time with their dog, ugh! I would def offer to help
Dogs to me are like babies! they need people, they cant do things for themselves and they need play time. No wonder the dog was up all night! probably feels abandoned! :(

Im going to come to the defense of the dog sitter. I am dog sitting right now for a friend for two weeks. I go and spend several hours there three times a day. I play with them, let them out, get them their exercise. I am giving them a lot of attention. I leave at 9pm for the night and one is crated and the other is not. But I know they bark anyway. They are just missing their owners and there's nothing I can do.
So perhaps not the dog sitters fault.

I hear what you're saying. However, this dog sitter has hardly been there. She showed up around 10 this morning and by 10:30 was gone. The dog is crying and barking now and I have a feeling has been crates the entire time because the barking is coming from one concentrated place in the house.
This dog was up howling and barking and crying ALL night long. On their other side is a family with a brand new baby.... I saw her this morning too and she was also upset for the dog and her lack of sleep. This is a clear violation of the noise ordinance plus just cruel to this animal. I blame the dog sitter because he/she should have at least left a light on, a TV, a radio.... something. And I blame my neighbor. Our houses are close together. I heard this poor thing all night. Had he been left outside all night long barking like this and howling, my neighbor would be facing the police at his door.
I offered to help out. He hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Is this the first time they are away? Maybe the owners didn't know how the dog would behave.
I was going to say I would offer to help. But I see you did that already.
Good luck hopefully they take you up on the offer. I would hate knowing my dog was so stressed out that this is how he was behaving. Not mention what it's doing to the neighbors.
