Need Advice and/or Info on Student Loans Through Navient
My husband has two student loans through Navient and has been paying them for around 15 years (maybe more). I know not too long ago Navient was in the news and it was all negative. Does anyone know any more about this and if there's any way to find out if we've been screwed in any way?
Also, any programs out there to lower student loans or anything like that? I feel like we are so oblivious to this stuff and all we do is pay the bill monthly and that's it. However, sometimes I hear things in the news that makes me wonder if there's any type of loan forgiveness program out there that would apply to us.
If you have any useful info to help, I'd really appreciate it. I feel like we'll never pay these loans up.
ETA: One is from his college days when he went to NYIT and the other is a loan from this little private type computer school he once went to.

My DH has a loan serviced through Navieny. He doesn't have any issues.
As for loan. Forgiveness - only if he works in the public sector. Believe me I'd love loan forgiveness but it's just not out there for most people

Need Advice and/or Info on Student Loans Through Navient
I have Navient for a private student loan. To be honest those advertisements that Navient did XYZ are a scam. The whole student loan industry is corrupt and people have tried suing. Like for example, you take the loan, it goes into repayment, people never thought interest rates would be as high as they are, or that interest is compounded daily but they are so complex in their loan agreements, people honestly don't read into what they are taking and disclosures are vague. Loan forgiveness is only for federal loans (stafford loans) and its if you work in a public service job. Like my stafford loans will be forgiven in 3 years as I work in a non profit setting. Private loans are almost impossible to get rid of aside from paying them off. If I knew then what I know now I would have never taken the loan. I've started saving for my twins college aggressively and they are 6 months old.. all because I never want them to have to deal with this. Student loans are a B.

I have my loans serviced through Navient and I also follow/work/oversee oversight of mortgage, student and auto loan debt for my job and am closely watching what the CFPB does in regards to this industry. Do you feel you've been "wronged" by Navient? Are you paying higher than normal rates, have they processed your payments wrong, etc.? If so, you may be able to join a class action but otherwise, you just have to continue paying as is.

You look into refinancing through companies like SoFi.

Re: Need Advice and/or Info on Student Loans Through Navient
I've had Navient since they took over Sallie Mae, I haven't had any issues with them. But for me, they took over only in name, my loan was refinanced through Sallie Mae back in 2003 when interests rates were insanely low. I'm locked in so nothing has changed even though I am with Navient now.

Re: Need Advice and/or Info on Student Loans Through Navient
My DH and I both have Navient loans and they have made so many mistakes on our accounts that we are thinking of joining a class action law suit. We had our loans auto pull for a 10 year program at 1%, but if we missed a payment we would be dropped out of the plan, don't you know 3 years into the program they didn't auto pull one month and pretended it was our fault and we have been fighting with them since. I feel like they are so terrible and just stealing money left and right, the only reason we haven't paid it off was because of the great deal we got, and now I don't want to pay them at all ((obviously we still do)) but I hope it's sold off again.

Re: Need Advice and/or Info on Student Loans Through Navient
My husband has navient, and has so many issues. Due to hardship, He got paperwork on reducing the monthly payment based on salary - they said the payment CANNOT increase. He did the paperwork, and bam, they came back with a figure nearly double what he was paying, and refused to lower it back. After a million phone calls, someone Finally lowered it a little. Seems like different agents give different stories and you have to get supervisors on the line. It's the only way anything gets done. And he has to go through this process every single year. We've come to hate the month of June. Good luck!

If you have equity in your home, I'd take out a home equity loan to pay them off. The rates may be lower.
