Report: Long Island Rail Road delays are worst in 10 years
https://apnews.com/71ba15c0119d42538febc02302801ae9/Report:-Long-Island-Rail-Road-delays-are-worst-in-10-years
NEW YORK (AP) — Evening rush-hour cancellations and delays on New York’s Long Island Rail Road have reached their highest level in 10 years, according to transit data analyzed by the Wall Street Journal.
Problems at Amtrak-managed Penn Station have caused many of this year’s problems, but the LIRR’s performance also has become increasingly unreliable over the past four years, the Journal (http://on.wsj.com/2rQbMjZ ) found.
From 2008 through 2012, the LIRR’s systemwide on-time evening rush-hour performance averaged 93 percent during the first four months of those years. Over the last five years, it dropped to 87 percent. ...
So it's not just anecdotal, or a feeling that the LIRR is bad... it actually is...

There is an occurrence at lease once a week.
The bad news is that the all the planned repair work hasn't even started yet. I don't even want to think what the commute will be like, in the heat of the summer. I may just go back to riding the express bus.

Re: Report: Long Island Rail Road delays are worst in 10 years
They had a reporter outside Penn station on the news yesterday morning because there was another massive issue the night before with the commute home (Shocking!)
She said that someone who she spoke to said that when the airlines have delays, screw up badly, make you miss a connection or ruin a trip for you, as bad as the airlines are, they at least give you SOME kind of compensation, a credit, a voucher, etc.
With the LIRR, it's like too fuking bad, go eff yourself. Too bad that you're late for work. Too bad that you are late picking up your kid at daycare. Too bad. Now pay us, and we'll keep raising the fares whenever the eff we want.
There needs to be more accountability. Make them have to start refunding passengers every time they have a fuk up and maybe this will end.
For now, it doesn't affect their bottom line even a little so what do they care? It's not like it's an industry based on competition.

I said this to DH the other day. I wonder how many people have been fired as a result of the LIRR's fluck ups. People with families to support. It's disgusting and you're right, they don't care.
I don't know who exactly is responsible for this but THEY should be fired.

^ I really wish they would compensate us for the inconvenence. Its not just once a week these days, its more then that. It annoys me that I lay out all this money for a monthly ticket and then on days where are cancellations and combined trains, conductors don't even come around....so the people who lay out the money for the monthly are getting screwed big time, compared to people who shell out for a daily ticket or 10 trips b/c they can use those anytime. The monthly holders should get some discount now. Not fair.

My commute in the am is fine coming home has been horrendous at least 2x a week my train is canceled and very rarely is it on time. It's terrible and so upsetting.

I too find it upsetting too. The anxiety of the cancelled train and crowds gets to me. I just changed my work hours so I can come in earlier and leave earlier now to avoid the rush hour home. I couldn't do it anymore. Just thinking about another cancellation makes me anxious.
