Upgrading Mac OS

I want to update my mac os. I currently have 10.6 but I can't figure out what I can upgrade to. I read instructions to look under 'about my mac' for date but can't find anything. How can I find out what os I can upgrade to?

just go on Apple's website. You should be able to upgrade from there. Or the App Store on your Mac. I know I can upgrade to Sierra, but I haven't yet.

I did and it seems like there are specifications for your computer to be able to update to sierra

10.6 was snow leopard which was the OS from 2009. Currently, the highest upgrade is Sierra. If you go to the Mac page, click on the Sierra Circle on the top of the homepage, from there, go to how to upgrade and from there it will tell you the minimum hardware you need to update to Sierra.

I also think you need 10.7 to upgrade to Sierra, so you need to update to El Capitan first. Once you do that you can update to Sierra, as long as your machine is supported. I believe it cant be earlier than a 2009 model.

In the top left cover is the apple icon. You click on that and it says about this mac or something like that. You find that info there.
