Moms of 3 or who had back to back babies...come on in

How long did it take for your belly to go down? I have 3. After #2, who is almost 4 years younger than #1, my stomach had gone down a lot-close to normal- but I found out I was pregnant when he was about 5 months old so it popped right back out.

Now I'm 8 months PP with #3 and my stomach is still pretty round. I can get into my regular pants but when I button them, I have extreme muffin top. When I get my period, my stomach actually gets distended and I look 5 months pregnant. It's also hard. It has to be my uterus doing something wacky during that time but I spoke to my doctor and she wasn't concerned about it. She just said my body was readjusting. I have been dieting and losing weight but my stomach isn't going down.

I still wear some of my maternity pants so I can look presentable. A bigger size in regular pants just looks droopy on me because they are too big everywhere else. Actually yesterday I found a dress in my closet that was a size 16. I think I bought it when I was pregnant with DS1. I'm normally a size 10. When I put it on, it was huge everywhere but super tight around my stomach.

I don't know if it's because I had 3 or because my babies are back to back. Anyone else experience this?

I have 3. First two are close together. These are all risk factors for diastasis recti. This is your stomach muscles separating and leaving a "pooch".

My youngest is almost 2... and I'm almost at my pre pregnancy body... but it took the gym and months (7 months and counting) to get there. Not sure if I have diastasis, but I'm not going to have plastic surgery. I am working my body on getting into the best shape it can be in. I will never go back to my body pre kids... but that's ok with me. Now I wear higher waist jeans and have donated some dresses.

That's reassuring to hear. Are there any particular types of exercise that have made you notice a difference? I've been walking a lot but I was thinking I need to do something else. I have been so focused on getting the weight off and I am exercising in the form of walking (it's a nice way for me to get some time in with my kids- I can throw them in the stroller and go) but I was thinking I probably need to do a different type of work out.

I had diastasis recti after pregnancy, it was bad. I worked with a personal trainer/physical therapist who gave me exercises and it closed it up. I was skinny but still looked pregnant and now my belly is flat again. It was a good amount of work, I had to do exercises a few times a week but it worked for me.

You can probably Youtube Diastatis Recti exercises or see a physical therapist to help you.

My 3 children are 18 months apart. I still have weight to lose and my youngest is 16 months... but my stomach is rounded, hard and it looks like I'm about 5 months pregnant when I have my period or am just bloated as well. I haven't spoke to my dr about it. I just assumed it was because my muscles separated. So no advice but I feel your pain. Finding clothes that fit right is near impossible. I live in long tunics and leggings.

Did your OB diagnose you with this? I wonder if my OB is sleeping on the job. I have been having extremely painful periods which I mentioned to my OB and she said to premedicate which has definitely helped. She said there was no real cause to the painful periods but I'm wondering if this could be it. It's not like typical cramping...I describe it as like a twisting. As quickly as it comes on, it goes away but it is take your breath away pain. I chalked it up to my body readjusting but I wonder if that's what it is. I have some PT friends who are going to give me some exercises to try. I'll see if that helps.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I do orange theory fitness. It is composed of running (25 minutes so about 2 miles) and weights (with row machine). Weights include 25 minutes of abs, legs and arms. Ab excercises are pretty straight forward (crunches, push ups, bicycle)... but I do better with classes because I feel forced to go and it keeps it interesting.

I love walking too, but it doesn't do it for me (I have a walking buddy and we've been doing about 3 miles twice a week since baby was born). It isn't bad for you, but I saw change when I hit gym.
