Need a remedy for a sore throat while nursing
Anyone have any remedies for a sore throat? I have been doing saline spray, drinking lots of water/tea, sucking on cough drops, and keeping a warm humidifier next to my bed. I have been doing this since Monday and it's only getting worse. Advil helps marginally. Dr. said he is limited in what he can give me since I am nursing and what I really need is a nasal steroid which isn't recommended while BFing.
Dr. ruled out strep and ear infection.

Advil always helped me. How many are you taking? I feel I need to take 3 for it to actually have an effect.
You can also try come honey and tea. That's what I give my 3 year old when he has a cough/sore throat (luke warm tea for him!)
You can also call the infant risk center and find out what meds are safe to take. Many doctors wont give you meds because there is limited information about how they will affect the infant. This happened to me with a medication that I HAD to take for an infection. When I called infant risk, they said that it was fine to take, but could decrease milk production. I went on to nurse my DS for THREE years.

Like pp said, maybe up the dose of Advil. Are you congested and having post nasal drip? I know you can take benadryl but it can decrease your supply.

Have you gargled salt water? I swear by gargling and the netti pot, it's all I've used for years bc I've been pregnant or nursing forever lol

I like the Organic Throat Coat tea. It kind of coats the throat.
I am not sure you can have it while BFing though?

This. I have never taken anything more for a sore throat other than the one time I had strep.

Manuka Honey. They sell it at Wild by Nature or Whole Foods. Get 250 mgo or higher. Mix with tea. Don't get the Trader Joes...it's not therapeutic.

As long as it's not a bacterial infection, it's really just a matter of time.... hopefully since you've been feeling this way since Monday it won't last too much longer. 
I was going to suggest tea, but I see you've been doing that. I hope it's on it's way out soon! I'm sure this back and forth weather doesn't help.

peppermint oil will give you some relief...its my saving grace during allergy season!

A sore throat typically doesn't continue to get worse for very long. I'd say if you still have it after the weekend, go back to your dr.
