1st Birthday Madness

So seriously...I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I have my daughters 1st birthday planned for this sunday at an Italian restaurant nearby. It's from 12-4.

About 50 adults and 10 kids. Mickey Mouse theme. I have Mickey cookies as favors for the kids and mini wine bottles with Mickey Mouse labels for the adults. I have Mickey decorations and I'm getting a Mickey back drop. I'm getting a Mickey chalk poster of my daughter and getting photos printed out of my daughter at each month of the past year.

My question - should I do a candy bar? I was on Amazon before and I can find a bunch of stuff and make some things - cupcakes, rice crispy treats, jelly beans, m&ms, lollipops...etc. I have no one to help me with this and I'm just not sure if I should go ahead with it or if I'm just going overboard because I'm in panic/stressed out mode.

Thanks everyone!

Re: 1st Birthday Madness

If you don't mind doing it, go for it, but it's not necessary.

Personally it sounds like a lot of work and I am not one for going over the top and causing myself a ton of work and stress.

If you are already spread thin, just stick with what you have, it sounds like it is perfect.

It's getting down to the wire too and you;'ll be rushing. I would skip it

I always wind up doing a candy bar and it's a little stressful. It's a lot to set up. And there's always a ton left over, even though I got the minimum amount for everything. I convinced myself last minute this past weekend at my DD's 1st that I needed to add chocolate lollipops and chocolate covered pretzels to the candy buffet... guess what I have left over in spades? Chat Icon If you already have the glass jars and you'll have time to set it up, go for it, but it is by no means necessary!

ETA: I got most of my candy on Amazon, but a lot of it was not prime eligible, so I had to order a week in advance. So maybe check and see what you can get before you decide to definitely do it. I was also limited because I insisted on all pink candy. Chat Icon

Re: 1st Birthday Madness

I don't think it's necessary. Sounds like you have plenty to give away, eat, etc. No need for a candy bar. Usually the kids go running to it and put their hands right in the bowl. I don't need my kids all sugared up before we leave too. Although if it happens I'm not gonna complain. LOL!
After the kids get their sticky hands in the bowls no one wants to touch it anyway and leftovers get tossed.

If it's going to stress you out don't do it. It's not worth the stress.

We actually didn't have any kids sticking their hands in the bowls! At least that I saw- the table was too high. Chat Icon The parents had to fill their bags for them.

Don't do it. The parents of the 10 children will be happy you didn't give their kids cookies AND candy! Chat Icon

LOL! Yes, totally agree about the high tables.
I do agree it's cute, but not necessary unless it's something you really want and don't feel like you have enough.
Me personally... I'd definitely take the wine over candy. Chat Icon Chat Icon

1st Birthday Madness

We just had a very similar 1st bday party for my ds. About 50 people and 5 kids at an Italian restaurant. We had a sesame street theme. So we had decorations that went with the theme, but that was pretty much it. We didn't do any extras like a candy bar or any kind of entertainment. Just dinner and cake. I tried to keep it somewhat simple and stress free so I could just enjoy it.
