Has anyone ever owned a gold bar ( like an ounce of gold)? Is it worth investing in gold ? How much do you gain over time?

My sister has a small jewelry business and I always remember her saying that overtime gold generally tends to keep its value. I can ask her for more specifics tomorrow if u're interested.
