Co worker resigns

When a coworker resigns does your supervisor announce it or discuss with your team how responsibilities will be handled?

We had someone give notice last week and mgmt hasn't said a word. This person's work load will have an effect on all of us and we are all already working crazy hrs. The week he leaves is also the week another team member goes on 2 weeks of vacation.

Re: Co worker resigns

They should absolutely tell you and come up with a transition plan. I mean that is the point of the 2 week notice- to give you 2 weeks to get things in order and transition work
Why are they keeping it a secret?

Depends on the reason for the resignation. At my job, it's announced if it's an amicable resignation. If the person is bitter and not leaving on friendly terms, it is kept mum until all of a sudden the person is gone and then everyone is left scrambling.

Maybe they will be making the announcement once they have a plan for how to proceed.

Yes ,this. If his responsibilities will now fall to you then I think they would need to let you know.

That's what I would think. But They should definitely address it.

My company NEVER gives us notice when someone on our team resigns or when we get a new hire. Rumors spread and then we typically find out from the person leaving. If they decide to hire someone we only find out once we have to start training the new employee. It's ridiculous. Especially... like you.. the team takes the brunt of the workload when someone leaves. A heads up would be nice and appropriate if you ask me!!

Same. I usually hear whispers about So and so leaving but nothing official. It's maddening

That is a terrible working environment to be in.
It's really not good for morale

S*u*ck it up sunshine.. Oh I mean
"Veronica you will have to take on more work"

REALLY!? Because thanks to the stupid Dept of Labor attempt to fence us in and the idiotic office policy of clocking in and out I'm already strapped into working by the clock and doing more with less hours and now you want me to do my tech's work too? You must be freaking bat crap crazy!

Yeah my tech quit. Gave her notice last week. Next Tuesday is her last day.

My boss doesn't really give a rats butt since she has a tech still assigned to her. My boss and I have the two largest account books in the office. I was even told I should recognize how 'spoiled' I am to even have a tech. Really?!

Everyone else shared the techs. Two techs. Four account managers. Two techs assigned to each of the heavy hitters (myself and the boss) then they split the difference on the other two sharing them. Just before she quit they consolidated the last two and reassigned that workload to the receptionist so my tech would have less workload as my accounts were getting larger and more work involved. Now I have no one. Because THAT makes sense!

I'm NOT happy

I am told I have a replacement. Someone with absolutely no experience at all. I'm not allowed to train her. I can't upset her or she'll talk to her bestie (she's done it before) and I will get reprimanded (yes I've been behind closed doors because she has done this before). In the past I have always brushed her off as annoyance as she wasn't in my dept. But now she is. Kinda hard to trust my tech with that past, don't you think?

So.. bah!

Last time a coworker at equal level quit they just said literally "you WILL take on the new accounts, period" I still handle them today (a year later). I also inherited their messes as if I caused them too (that's been fun). I even got written up twice for it! Chat Icon

Let's just say my manager is not the best, shall we?

Last time she talked about my review she said "You were horrible last year, just horrible. Just so you know. You may be better now but you were really bad. So your review is in two parts."

Well thanks. Because being written up 3 times in one year needs to be rehashed. Chat Icon

And look here we go again. Can't wait.

"Veronica, you will need to do more work now" yeah me!
