Which would you suggest? What does each do?

cricut or silhoutte?
I have a Silhouette Cameo...LOVE it. I had bought a Cricut Explore or something like that, but it required you to always be on the internet to cut. The Cameo doesn't require that. I bought mine a couple of years ago...I think there are newer models. I have a lot of parties, so use it a ton for that! I also sell a lot of vinyl'd water bottles, teacher gifts, car decals, etc. when I'm motivated to make and sell.

I have a Cameo and I LOVE it!!! I chose it over the Cricut a few years ago because it didn't require cartridges which can be costly. I've been very happy with mine, it's an excellent machine.

Cricut no longer requires cartridges or a subscription to design space to use. You do need to be connected to the internet to use design space. Silhouette you need to purchase an upgraded version of software to be able to use your own designs. I have both and use my cricut tons more than the silhouette.

Yes with Silhouette you do need to purchase that, but the design software (to be able to trace ANYTHING), is only $50 or less. I think I paid $35 for it on ebay or Amazon

I have a circut and it's easy to use, no complaints. Doesn't require cartridges but you need to be connected to the Internet to design anything. I don't know anything about the cameo.

You can use alternate programs to design and not need to be connected to the internet. Just save and then upload to design space when you are connected. They will upload as a svg and nothing else needs to be done.

I have a Cricut explore and love it. Can't compare but have heard Cricut is easier to use. I love mine. So easy. Does require Internet but unless you live in the boonies you should be ok.

I have the silhouette portrait because I wanted the least expensive option. I love it. The software is so easy to use, and fun to use too. I copy-pasted my own images into the included program and it worked fine.
