A big Friday night was going to the video store (even before blockbusters). They had little slips of paper and pencils to write down the number of the movie you wanted. You had to write a bunch bc 9 times out of 10 they were out of your first few choices.

Kids played outside. Unattended. ALLLLLL day long. And we only came home to eat lunch and then again when the streetlights came on because that meant it was time to wrap it up for the day.

I think this one makes me the most sad to not see anymore

Oh yeah! My friends family owned a video store and I forgot, but now I totally remember this!

When I told my 17 year old niece about how when I was a kid we took pictures of our friends and fun and could not see what we looked like until we paid to have them
Developed at Duane reade lol

Or stores that DEVELOPED PHOTOS. I worked in one when I was 17. Its insane that they even existed. And, not only did you have to take them to be developed, the people developing them saw your pictures.

And let me tell you, the people of Middle Village took some crazy a$$ pictures. I saw more boobs than a 13 year old boy with some playboys.

I had to explain to my coworkers 10 year old the other day, that there was no such thing as call waiting- if someone was on the landline you had to keep trying and wait for them to get off, OR have the operator immediately call you back once the line was free (and try to explain those charges to your parents on their Bell Atlantic bill!)

When I was in middle school & high school, I was only allowed 30 minutes of AOL at a time because it tied up the phone lines lol. Oh and remember the ancient days of the internet? Prodigy!?! Chat Icon

younger co-workers :

Back in my day, we didn't have e-mail, we used a telex system and fax machines.

Don't forget inter-office mail envelopes!

Yes! All the time!

- Going to a record store to buy music. I remember lining up outside of stores at midnight on a Monday since albums would be released on Tuesdays, and for some big releases, the stores would stay open late!

- Buying concert tickets at Ticketmaster outlets in Rite Aid or a local video store.

- When Sephora didn't exist so if you wanted to sample things, you'd have to go from one counter to the next in a department store and deal with sales people...or you could get samples from your local Avon lady. Remember those teeny lipstick samples?!

- Finding the locations of books in the library by using a card catalog!
