Things to do with kids by museum of natural history
We are thinking of taking the train into he city with kids and go to the museum of natural history
This would be their first time in a train and in the city.
What else can we do in that area

Childrens Museum of Manhattan
Or Central Park. If the weather is nice they have plenty of playgrounds.

The museum will take a lot of time. I wouldn't necessarily plan another museum. I'd probably take the subway down to the Lego store or time square. I work up by the museum and can recommend a really good kid friendly lunch place. It's called Sugar & Plumm. It's over on Amsterdam and 78th (one block over from the museum).
Have fun!!

The New York Historical Society is right across the street as well - sometimes they have fun exhibits (otherwise it's probably more geared towards older kids). Our library has a free pass.
There are also a lot of nice playgrounds in CP along CPW.

We were walking back from the museum through Central Park and came across the remote control sailboats in the pond (around 75th st) and my DD absolutely loved it, especially since we had recently read Stuart Little!
