How can we get baby to sleep? CIO?
DS is 1 now but he has horrible sleep patterns.
At night he will go to sleep around 9pm and then stir around midnight. Starting from then on he will wake about every hour and cry. My wife has to put him on her boob (but she has no more milk now) and he will quiet down but not sleep.
We thought about CIO but here's another problem, DS, DD (20 months), Wife and I all sleep in the same room. DD and wife sleep in the bed, DS is in his crib (with 1 side missing) pushed against the bed and I'm on the floor. (the joys of an apartment in NYC)
My wife is going crazy from lack of sleep, but when DS wakes he cries even louder if I pick him up. So its all up to my wife.
If he cries too loud then he wakes up DD and she starts crying.
Thank you!

Could he be teething? My DS slept horribly while teething. Infant Tylenol may help
Sounds counterintuitive but could he not be getting enough rest during the day? Is he napping during the day? Without a nap they sleep worse. You could also try an earlier bed time, he could be overtired by the time he goes down.
Other than that, they'll just out grow it. My 2 year old still doesn't always STTN.

A major problem of all sleeping in the same room. Is there anyway you could set up the crib in the living room - not ideal but may help or get a room partition for your bedroom.
Our 2nd son didn't have a separate room to sleep in and his sleeping pattern was destroyed. Still now at the age of 7 he comes into our room every night. It is like he never really passes out.

My dd2 sttn at 3 mos., then around 9 mos started waking and we had to cio. It worked. Now she's 13 mos and it's starting again with overnight wake ups. I think it's teething and I also think she's starving. She will down a bottle of milk! We are trying to give her snacks before bed and Tylenol. Seems to be working most nights.

How is he napping during the day? If he isn't napping long enough during the day it may be interfering with night sleep. I agree with PP, the problem is you guys being in the same room. DD was in our room until she turned one (we were also in a small apt) and when she moved into her own room we had to do CIO. And now about 6 months later she still ends up in our bed at some point almost every night.
Can you set him up in the living room to sleep? Look up the ferber method, that's what we did when sleep training.

I am in a similar situation. DS has his own room but DD doesn’t so she’s in our room. When we slept trained her, which took 2 nights, DH slept in DS’s room and I slept in the living room. I thought about creating her own space in the living room but that didn’t work for us bc I get up really early in the mornings and would wake her when I was getting ready/leaving. So I suggest doing something like that or putting his crib in the LR to sleep train him.

This. We did CIO with DD but I couldn't imagine doing it with her in the same room as us, let alone 3 of us!

Bunch of stuff you could try: Milk before bed Giving bottle instead of boob when baby wakes up Partition to screen crib Ferber method with kids in another room Playing with day naps (too much? Too little?) You could even try sleeping with the younger one and moving the older one into the crib. DD got the best sleep of her life once I put her in a separate room!

I'm kind of going thru the same thing. Ds is 10 Months and also wakes every hour or two thru out the night. I think it's because he has teeth coming in, so I feel bad letting him cry. But even when he isn't teethibg, the longest stretch he'll ever give me is between 4-6 hours, followed by waking every hour or two the rest of the night. Its exhausting. But bc we have such a small house, his crib is right next to my bed. So,even if I try to let him cry, he can see me and just gets more upset. And my dds room is nearby so I don't want her to wake up. Giving him ibuprofen or Tylenol doesn't seem to make a difference either. He just want s to nurse for a few minutes and then goes right back to sleep, usually. Its just annoying bc by the time I fall back to sleep again, he usually wakes up again.
