adopting

just wondering, is anyone considering adopting after they have a kid or kids of their own?

Me and DH had talked about it before i got pregnant in the event that I couldn't get pregnant, but now we are considering looking into it after we've had 2 or 3 kids of our own.

Re: adopting

International adoption is not as expensive as you may think.. There is a $10K tax credit from the fed gov't (which is different than a deduction). The money is not all due at once. In fact there are months and months were we haven't paid anyone a dime. And between not taking as much maternity leave, saving on months of daycare, diapers, possibly formula (I bfing) we figured it was almost a break even cost for us.

We are adopting a baby boy from Ethiopia. He will be home this Fall sometime. He will be 3-15 months old. We won't know until we get our paperwork.

I have a bio-daughter, Molly, who is 2.5 (will be 3 11/25).
We are very happy with our decision and if you would like to chat about it just let me know.

thats great! DH's family has a history of boys, so we are thinking of a baby girl from china. I was adopted as a baby, as were 2 of my other sisters, my parents have 2 natural kids and i always thought it would be a gesture to give a child the same opportunities that i was.

Re: adopting

We've talked about adopting once we were done have our own biological kids. I think it's an amazing thing to love a child as your own when they are not born of you.

I'd love some more info about how to lessen the costs of adoption. Does the country matter? I always said I wanted to adopt an asian girl.

Probably not Chat Icon but only b/c we're hoping to have 3 or 4 of our own, and our house is only 2 bedrooms right now, possible going to be 3 soon if we get the extension done!

Re: adopting

I love the thought of adopting. But being a foster parent appeals to me a little more. From the first time I read A Child Called It, I have been very interested in it.
