Shelter Island, Block Island...
Hi All -
I am looking for a rental home getaway for over the summer. Do most of you use VRBO to find rental homes?
Also, I am looking at Block Island, Shelter Island..any other suggestions? Anything on LI is just too expensive (Montauk, Hamptons) and we have already done Fire Island multiple times.
Can you get to Marthas Vinyard or other Beach Towns on RI from long island by ferry?
My brother in law suggested Ocean City Maryland, but that doesnt scream relaxing to me - ill have a 4 year old and a 10 month old, so crowed areas arent very appealing to me. Plus my mom is a relaxing by the beach kind of person and this is a gift from all of us to her for her 60th.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I am so conflicted and my dad and my siblings are useless with this kind of stuff...

Shelter Island, Block Island...
Love block island. We use vrbo for rentals but you would need to get on it asap bc they're already filling up in January. The beaches are gorgeous, great restaurants, cute town, playground, etc. You can't take a car on the ferry from Montauk so you need to be close to everything or drive around to Pt. Judith and book that ferry very early. The town gets crowded at peak season but I still find it relaxing. Ocean city with its lines of big hotels, arcades, and boardwalk is no where near as relaxing. Can't speak much about the other options.

Thanks for this!
Yes, I am realizing the rentals book up super quick but I ended up reaching out to a couple real estate offices directly and there are still some options.
Would you say you need a car on block island though? are there taxis? What about food - is there a grocery or do people bring food over on the ferry.
sorry for so many questions.
Yea I think Ocean City is out.

I like the freedom of having a car but there are plenty of people that just use cabs. There is a market, not huge or cheap but it's helpful. You can also use peapod and have it delivered on the ferry.

If I'm bringing my car I take the Bridgeport ferry and then it's about 2 hours to pt. Judith, or you can take the orient ferry to New London. The block island ferry is small and for cars books very early so just be aware of that.
I've also taken the Montauk boat and having lots of stuff is fine. I've traveled alone with two kids and a few bags and the crew always helps me out. My sister was living there until recently so even when I didn't have my car I was covered.
