Fun places to visit within 2-3 hours of N. Westchester/Putnam?

DD and I like to go away during Rosh Hashanah- DH always has to work so it's a girl's trip. She'll be 10. We've done Mystic Ct and Great Wolf in MA.

So I am thinking ahead and am wondering what other places might be fun. We are easygoing and like cities (am thinking about NYC) but we like rural/small towns too.

New Hope/Lambertville PA - quaint with cute shops
Boston
Philly
I like New Paltz and the Hudson Valley area - dia beacon, walkway over the Hudson, etc - but that may be too close to you to qualify as a getaway and she can't enjoy the wineries anyway.
Newport
Salem
Deerfield, MA - if you're into shopping check out the Yankee candle flagship store - it's a huge complex and you could spend the entire day there. There's a great restaurant right next door called Chandlers. My mom and I used to go up there together.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate the tips. I am a little embarrassed to say we haven't explored too much around here so I'm open to all, even for day trips. :)

I'd second Boston or Philly.
Esp with a 10 year old, it would be a good US history trip.
D.C. Is fun too, but I'd wait on booking writhe the current state of affairs. It's more of a 4 hour drive.
