Disney Magic or RC Anthem of the Sea

We are looking at vacations for the fall with another family. In November we went on Disney's Magic. It was a repositioning cruise that went to st Maarten, Tortola and ended at Puerto Rico.
This year the magic theme is Avengers. For the same week we just did it leaves NY and goes to Florida and their own island then back to NY. We were considering doing it again bc it's a little different and going to different places.

Our friends found another cruise leaving the same week that leaves NY too. The RC Oasis of the Sea. I don't know too much about it. The ship looks huge!! It's about half the cost of Disney and going to Florida as well and their own island and back to NY. The kids will be between 5 and 8 years old.

We're going back and forth what to do. We've done Magic and know they do an amazing job but this cruise is more expensive bc the last was repositioning. We like that the other cruise is different and definitely a bonus it's a lot less plus we'd be able to get a bigger room and still save.
Thoughts? Is there a lot for kids on RC?
Thanks!

ETA - changed Oasis to Anthem

Re: Disney Magic or RC Oasis of the Sea

It is very hard to compare a Disney cruise to any other cruise line. With that said, the Oasis of the Seas is one of the coolest cruise ships out there. The Oasis has a Kid Zone that is incredible. There is plenty for the kids to do.

If you are not currently working with a travel agent, I would love to help you decide which cruise is best for you and your family and friends at no additional cost to you. Shoot me an email [email protected]

Disney Magic or RC Oasis of the Sea

The Oasis of the Seas doesn't sail out of NY, it sails out of Florida. The Royal ship is the Anthem.

All of the ships, Magic, Anthem and Oasis all have different feels to them. We loved the Anthem and have another trip booked this summer. It was great and has an indoor pool which is a plus. There are bummer cars, an escape the room game, a sports zone. There is alot to do for the kids as well as adults and the ship is beautiful. It does not have many character interactions though. Our favorite ship by far.

The Oasis which leaves out of Florida is in a class of it's own. It is HUGE and so much fun. There are different neighborhoods, a water show, great character interactions. Anything you can almost imagine is on that ship. Lots of fun.

I have also done Disney a few times and although they have the best service and food, our kids were bored as well as the adults so it is really what your family would like to do.

You're right. It's anthem. So anthem is better? You know anything about Norwegian?

Yes, I've been on the Breakaway and the Gem a few times each. Both were great, for your ages though I think that Royal or Disney would be better. When we on Norwegian they had the Nick characters but they stopped doing that a few years ago so there are no characters or activities like that at all. If it was just adults, the Breakaway was awesome.

Between the Anthem and Disney, it really depends on your family. Both are great ships but we had a better time on the Anthem. Liked the rooms better, loved the activities and there was fun stuff to do for the adults when the kids were either asleep or in the kids clubs. If your kids are still very into Disney then that may be your better option. You can't go wrong with either so it's just what fits your family better.

They don't watch Disney as much, but loved it when we went in November. I think they wouldn't miss the Disney theme. I just don't know anything about the kids club at Anthem. Are they secure like Disney does with the bracelets?

I don't remember about bracelets but I know the process for checking in and out was thorough. Very secure.

This is a good article about kids on the anthem. I think the only thing different is the dining. The dining is now like every other cruise ship (sans Disney).

Disney Magic or RC Anthem of the Sea

i'm a huge fan of disney... we're doing our third Disney cruise in November. BUT that said... i think a lot of other cruise lines on the newer ships do as good of a job. We went on the Breakaway out of NYC a couple years ago, and thought it was great! they had a really cool Rope's course thing, and even had a mini one for the kids to do Chat Icon also mini golf, etc. The Magic doesn't have a mini golf course.
Just looking at pics of the Anthem--- looks like they have bumper cars?? and a sky diving thing?? and the surf simulator and the observation tower thing? I don't see how you could go wrong!! LOL Disney doesn't have any of that! LOL and leaving from NYC with all those sea days, you'll want more options of things to do....
like i said, i'm the world's biggest fan of Disney... but for half the cost with all of that stuff to do onboard, i would go with the Anthem...

I just want to say that ive been on the breakaway to bermuda n we loved it! The kids all had a blast n they had great entertainment. My daughter loved goin to the kid's club. It was very secure n we felt comfortable leaving her. You had to have the bracelet on as well as a code to get her out.

Disney Magic or RC Anthem of the Sea

We're going on Anthem in March. We're sooo excited! We would have loved to do Disney but it's just too expensive.

Re: Disney Magic or RC Anthem of the Sea

I've only done a Disney cruise, but I would say that if your kids aren't tied to Disney, why not try something new that sounds great and gets great reviews, esp for less money. My parents are treating us to a Disney cruise this summer, but mostly because my daughter is princess-obsessed and they really want to cherish the experience with her. If it was more about the cruise than the Disney aspect, we'd definitely consider other options. And I'm the hugest Disney fan!
