Strauss-Howe generational theory
Has anyone heard about this? I was reading something about generations (I'm really interested in generations) and I went down the rabbit hole and came across this theory. They wrote a book, which I plan to read, and it introduced this theory.
Apparently, we are in crisis mode. And have about 10 more years of it.

I skimmed through it, other than the section you referenced. It is interesting and I do think there is something to the idea of cycles- I think it was true through the last century, with WWI, the Depression, WWII, etc.
I do wonder if technology is going to impact the rate of these "turnings"- given the ease of communication we have now vs. 100 years ago when people were reliant on means that were so much slower.

I thought the same thing about technology, but more along the lines of will the generations turn over quicker? I mean there is a dispute about Gen X and Millennial dates, and this Oregon Trail generation has been added in between these two. How will that (smaller generations) affect these turnings? This is sort of what you said, right?

I was thinking more about the process of upheaval and change- but your point is interesting- I was surprised to see Gen X beginning in 1961- my ex boss was born in 61 and while we got along well I always thought of her as being at the tail end of the Baby Boom especially since her dad was a WWII vet.
Also people are having kids later- does than impact generations? They say 25 years because it used to be that's when many started having kids- now people have their first kids in their 40s in some cases.

This is a really interesting theory! I also wonder how technology will impact these turnings, the information and communication exchange aspect. It makes sense about where we are now at this point in history. Is Trump the catalyst for the crisis to take place like it naturally was going to? We've been heading in this direction for a while, but we've reached a new extreme. Thanks for posting.
