ADL and "America First"
http://www.adl.org/press-center/press-releases/anti-semitism-usa/adl-urges-donald-trump-to-reconsider-america-first.html#.WIJKWxsrKUk?referrer=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-inaugural-address-america-first_us_588248c1e4b096b4a2315af0
New York, NY, April 28, 2016 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today urged presidential candidate Donald Trump to reconsider his use of the phrase “America First” as a slogan describing his approach to foreign affairs, citing its anti-Semitic use in the months before Pearl Harbor by a group of prominent Americans seeking to keep the nation out of World War II.
The most noteworthy leader of the “America First Committee” was Charles Lindbergh, who sympathized with the Nazis and whose rhetoric was characterized by anti-Semitism and offensive stereotypes, including assertions that Jews posed a threat to the U.S. because of their influence in motion pictures, radio, the press, and the government.
“The undercurrents of anti-Semitism and bigotry that characterized the America First movement – including the assumption that Jews who opposed the movement had their own agenda and were not acting in America’s best interest – is fortunately not a major concern today,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “However, for many Americans, the term ‘America First’ will always be associated with and tainted by this history. In a political season that already has prompted a national conversation about civility and tolerance, choosing a call to action historically associated with incivility and intolerance seems ill-advised.”
In a letter to Mr. Trump, ADL urged him to refrain from using the slogan in the future.
So I guess an Inauguration speech is the best opportunity to use a phrase that you were explicitly asked not to use because of it's anti-Semitic references....

Honest question. Please don't take offense, because I'm not intending to offend you.
Why are you so fixated on increasing traffic to this site? Just curious.

Uggh, this is disgusting. It's the first I've heard and yet a quick Google search shows it has been pointed out for months as he's used the slogan during his campaign.

Because I honestly like LIF. If there isn't traffic on the site, it goes away. The more traffic there is, the more diverse topics we get, the more interesting the conversations, and the more fun it is. I would think everyone on LIF would want to see more traffic on here....

Re: ADL and "America First"
There is less and less diversity due to the fact that users like myself are reluctant to even respond to a post without getting ripped to shreds.
I wanted to post something yesterday about how Wold Blitzer from CNN aired a segment sating “What if an incoming president and his immediate successors were wiped out on day one?” I refrained even posting this because I knew the backlash this would cause and I didn't feel like arguing with anyone over this.
Honestly, if users on this site are THIS passionate about politics, TBTB should consider replacing one of the lesser used boards like "Crafting" or whatever and replace it with a politics board. It isn't a crazy idea since a separate "Disney" board was suggested many times over the years, but of course, never happened. Last I checked, this was a FHF board.

Have you seen the show "Designated Survivor"? It's a current show that actually is based on an explosion during a State of the Union Address, and it takes out basically all 3 branches of the gov't. There are "Designated Survivors" that are kept away from everyone else in case something like that happens. I have no idea how much is based on reality, but it's an interesting premise for a show.
It was renamed FHF a few years ago. It used to have a more generic name (don't remember exactly what it was called), but TPTB wanted to rename the primary forum to make it more "Family friendly" or something. A lot of us commented back then on non-family topics having to be put in FHF.

If by "political", you mean, about the virulent anti-semitism and invocations of the Holocaust that threaten our children and pose an existential threat to Jewish people---generating information and discussion..then yup. And keep 'em coming. If we stop discussing anti-semitism or even willful disregard for minority groups generally by our leadership or society, we're in trouble. People need to keep caring. And posting. If the Holocaust or the rhetoric/shadows of it doesn't disturb you, move along. If it does, you should be glad that we have a message board that we can point something like that out on. Either way...another "political" post.

Salad dressing reviews should go on Dining In & Out.
Personally, I don't see the problem with GoldenRod's political posts. All of them are relevant and factual, citing sources. They rarely become inflammatory. Aside from that, there are so few posts on here that only really old ones or posts that almost no one responds to get bumped to the bottom or second page.
ETA: And plenty of people who either hate and enjoy the political posts have said sure, there maybe should be a politics board, but there isn't one. And TPB don't seem to be forthcoming with one. So where should this be posted then?

Yet you have nothing to say about the article Goldenrod posted. Just complaining that he posted it in the first place, then basically ask him why he's still on this board.
I may have missed it but I didn't see you complaining on the positive Trump post goldenrod made.

Perhaps she should find a "safe space" away from this board.

If you don't want to be involved in them then don't. Otherwise, like all the other Trump fans have said to the non Trump fans, get over it and move on.
There has been so many things posted on my FB feed today alone from Trump supporters that had me I just kept scrolling. No one is going to change their mind based on ANYTHING I say or post AND vice versus.
The constant posting of 'why is there another post about not liking Trump....' just proves how Trump supporters are all one way when it comes with the insults. They sure as HELL can fling them, but they cry like babies when its given back.

Re: ADL and "America First"
Besides, this is not "politics." This is not about power or elections, etc. It is about the invocation of America's willfull blindness and disgust as a race of people dealt with an attempted EXTERMINATION.
People are scared, and they're talking a lot because they can/ Hoping that others will listen even if they don't feel directly affected right now.
Please hear the consuming concerns of those around you. Even if you like this man, even if you are rooting for him (as I hope we all are)...please hear others' fear in the face of an invocation of an existential threat.

Example of the non stop political posts.
Example of people responding to my political posts more than the dozen other posts I made today....
And on another note... Today is Inauguration day. If you can't talk about politics on Inauguration Day, when can you?
If you don't like the "nonstop political posts" stop opening them up and reading them.
In response to this post, NOTHING about this man shocks me anyone. Dictator in the making.
Don't open it and read it. I swear I'm going to open a Disney / tipping etc. post and start complaining about that soon. This is ridiculous.
Please don't forget to open all the "what should I give at my mailman's wedding? A tip or a gift from the registry?" and complain there too.
I don't recall these same posters asking to stop all the HRC email/benghazi posts. What is so hard about not opening a thread if you don't like the topic? Why bother opening it just to whine?
