We are headed to Vail next month. I've never been and would love to hear some tips from anyone who's been there. Favorite restaurants, experience with ski school, things to do besides ski? We are staying near Lionshead I think? Dc are 11, 9 and 5yo. Also, is it easy to get to Beaver Creek if we want to ski there one day? I know it is fairly close but we are not renting a car since the condo we are staying in is in the village. Thanks!!

Re: Vail, Colorado

I lived in Vail for almost 4 years a while back. I definitely recommend for you to go to the rec center in Avon (base of Beaver Creek) They have a huge indoor swimming pool with lazy river and waterslide.

There is also an adventure park at Vail for tubing which is a lot of fun.

Also, the libraries in both Vail and Beaver Creek have a nice reading area with a fireplace if you want someplace cozy and you don't feel like being in your hotel room/condo.

There is a bus system that goes between Vail and Beaver Creek. It is super easy to navigate. Plus taxis are all over.

There is a small town in between Vail and Avon called Minturn. The Minturn Saloon was a fun restaurant when I lived there. Good margaritas from what I remember.

Vendetta's is in Vail village and a good pizza place to go with the kids. They also have a sit down restaurant which is good.

The Swiss Chalet at the Sonnealp is fun restaurant to go to as a family. It is a fondue restaurant but also has really good food. You don't have to do just Fondue.

The ski school there is excellent and I definitely recommend going to Beaver Creek for a day of skiing.

That is all that I can think of for now. Have fun they have been getting a lot of snow. Just enjoy the relaxation. Make sure you get a massage and do a spa there. They have so many good places through out town.
