10 million American adults identify as LGBT

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The portion of American adults identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) increased to 4.1% in 2016 from 3.5% in 2012. These figures, drawn from the largest representative sample of LGBT Americans collected in the U.S., imply that more than an estimated 10 million adults now identify as LGBT in the U.S. today, approximately 1.75 million more compared with 2012.
This analysis is based on interviews with a random sample of more than 1.6 million U.S. adults as part of Gallup Daily tracking. Across the five years of data collection, more than 49,000 respondents said "yes" when asked, "Do you, personally, identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender?"

Not meant for any debate (although it probably will head that way at some point...), just an interesting article I found, and it shows how large of a voting pool that is. 10 million who are LGBT themselves, plus all of the people who directly or indirectly support those people.

I am curious if they were urban or rural. I also wonder how they were contacted. Cell phone vs home phone. I do think more people are out vs even five or ten years ago.

You might be surprised. I have a college friend who was closeted during college and for a couple years after. We are Facebook friends and when marriage equality passed she made a comment like, "I wish I knew how open minded my college friends were- I might have come out." This was the early 90s and it was upstate NY though it was a pretty gay friendly place for the time.
Anyway, she voted for Trump. I don't engage in political debates on FB- maybe she assumes he won't do away with marriage equality, I don't know. I think lots of things go into our choices, but to be honest, as someone who supports equal rights for the LGBT community, I would never vote for someone who wanted to take them away.

I do, too, and they are rabid Trump followers.
I also have gay family members who strongly support Trump.
I also know plenty of people who are of immigrant or minority status or married to and also support Trump.
