Kicking myself - Disney cruise

We went on a Disney cruise in November and had an amazing time. Now we were looking at next year's and kicking ourselves we didn't book it while there so we could've gotten 10% off! Is there any other way to save a little for their cruises or is that impossible?

They sometimes offer GTY rates which save a couple hundred dollars, but those are usually within 75 days of sailing. GTY rates have to be paid in full at time of booking, and you don't get to pick your stateroom. You are assigned a stateroom in the category you pick or higher.

Right now they are offering 50% off the deposit you put down (just less money down, not a cruise discount).

We booked two placeholder cruises almost 2 years ago. We used our first one last July and our using our 2nd one next month. It's a no brainer! 10% off and $100-$200 on board credit. I'm definitely booking another placeholder when we sail next month

We have the Disney rewards card, and you only get a $50 beverage credit board. They aren't good for "everything" anymore.

haha yup!!! we didn't book the placeholder on our first Disney cruise in 2014, and ended up going on another one like a year later... so we learned out lesson!!! LOL we ended up booking the placeholder on the second disney cruise we went on..... now you know for next time, it really is a no brainer!
we had good luck booking a "guaranteed" room for our first disney cruise. so basically you book a certain category, but don't get to pick your specific room. it saves you some money. on our first DCL cruise, we book about 2 weeks before we wanted to leave... guranteed balcony category... ended up with a room right on the back of the ship, with a HUGE, oversized balcony! LOL i think they knew it was our first one, and wanted to hook us!! Chat Icon so thats a good way to save a little bit of money.... also buying disney gift cards at Target with your Target card saves you 5%.... that can add up when you're spending that much on a vacation...

We booked ours through Costco and will get back an 800 dollar Costco cash card. Cruise isn't discounted but at least get the Costco money. Also 3% cash back on my credit card fir travel.

Wow! Really? I didn't know that. Online or do you do it there?

We did it on on-line. No, actually we called up since it was our first doing it. We are booked for an August 2017 cruise. I think the Costco Cash Card amount depends on the sailing and on the statement (higher = more money back). We booked through the Costco Travel Service.

Yes the Costco cash is cruise $$ dependent. Many travel agents give OBC also when booking through them. Also know, you lose complete control of your reservation and cannot call them to change things, requests, etc. I am too much of a control freak to have to rely on a third party to take care of my stuff Chat Icon

I got so frustrated trying to book through a third party. I had to tell them what I wanted and they would get back to me after a few hours with a room choice. If I wanted to change something or have a question, it would then again take a few hours.

The credit or perk they would give me wasn't worth it. I much preferred to deal with Disney directly and get instant confirmations.

So far haven't had any issues. We've been able to call disney with questions regarding dining and transportation. Both of which we were able to change easily. for example, we were originally assigned late dining, but were able to call and change to main seating.

It isn't that you lose control of the reservation, you are still completely in control, you just tell your agent what you want done and they call to do it for you. All of the same changes/etc can be done when you use a travel agent.

I do totally understand that not everyone likes that aspect and it doesn't work for everyone.

You lucked out, because normally they won't speak to you if you book through a third party.

I agree!!

Or if I want to change my stateroom/resort/etc. at midnight. I want to be able to just log on and do it myself, not wait for a travel agent to be open in the morning.

Same. I did it myself. I liked being able to do everything when I wanted to and quickly. I called them lots of times leading up to it. Added things, changed them. I did my research so I feel like I was aware of what I needed to know. Wasn't worth the $300 OBC we would've gotten.
