Could you live there?

The Amityville house just sold. Even if you don't believe the haunting, could you live in that house knowing its history?

‘Amityville Horror’ house has a buyer

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — The Long Island home that served as the inspiration for the book “The Amityville Horror” and the subsequent films of the same name is being bought.

Newsday reports the infamous 1927 Dutch Colonial on Amityville’s Ocean Avenue went into contract this week.

The property’s listing agent declined to discuss the terms of the sale. The home came on the market in June for $850,000.

The 5,000-square-foot home sits on a quarter-acre lot along the Amityville River. It boasts five bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms, a boathouse and a slip.

The home has been restored and updated while retaining period details such as leaded glass and oak floors.

Before gaining fame with the release of the original movie in 1979, the house was where 23-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and four younger siblings in 1974.

I couldn't, but not because of the history. I'm sure all of the people outside your house trying to get a look at it, take pictures, etc. would get old after awhile.

Re: Could you live there?

Maybe, I'm not sure. I've never seen the movie.... so a family was murdered there & it's supposedly haunted by evil spirits??

Yes. I used to live 4 houses away. Walked my dog by there all the time. Beautiful house and neighborhood. Was never scared being by there

Ocassionally people would drive by asking which house was "the one". It definitely increased around Halloween or if there was some publicity about the house but it was never crazy amounts of people or big crowds. I'm sure it was much worse when the books/movies first came out

ITA. The house itself wouldn't bother me, but the public notoriety would.

I couldn't. All I would be thinking about is the people that died right where I'm walking/sitting etc.

I have a coworker who used to live down the block. She said on Halloween cops had to block off the house from people egging it and trying to get to see it.

My high school best friend lived there in the 90s. They sold around '96 in order to downsize. Its a beautiful home but I personally would not have lived there. She also said the home was never haunted.

No way. You couldn't give me that house for free. I would never be able to rest there.

Oh he'll no. 6 people violently murdered in their sleep, 4 of which are children, there is no way. Years back I was going to buy. House when I found out there had been a suicide. When I was in the house I saw the couples wedding photos and thought how beautiful and happy they looked. Then I found out. I would be too freaked out.

Never. I refused to buy a home even if someone had died inside of it of natural causes! I get really freaked out by ghosts.
