Disney cruise to Canada

I'm trying to convince DH that this would be a fun, shirt vacation to do next fall. We've never been on a Disney cruise and this would be the first cruise for our 5 year old. We would do the 4 night to Canada trip. Has anyone been? What excursions did you do in Canada?

well... DS is 5. we've been on 2 DCL cruises with him (With a third one booked for next fall...) AND we've also been on a canadian cruise with him - but on royal caribbean.
DCL- is AMAZING!!!! the kid's club are great for that age- they did "mouseketeer training" one night, "super hero training" one night, and he came out wearing a little paper cape that he had decorated Chat Icon the food is good, service is awesome. its nice that the shows at night are family friendly-- DS really liked them!
the Canadian cruise we did was on Royal Caribbean. we went with my in laws, and it was a 9 day cruise to maine and canada. in canada we stopped at halifax- we just kind of walked around, there was the Citadel there to walk around and see the cannons and stuff. we also stopped in st. John, new brunswick and we rented a car and drove out to the bay of fundy which was neat... and Hopewell Rocks, which i think is a national park there? that was really neat... when tide is out you can walk through these huge rock formations... i say go for it!! Re: Disney cruise to Canada

We just got back from that exact cruise a few weeks ago! Well, ours was 5 nights. It was a FANTASTIC cruise, and we will definitely be going on another. In my opinion, having been on 3 other cruise lines, Disney is by far the best. The entertainment, the service, just everything. The whole experience was a magical one, and it was actually a first cruise for my 3yr old DS who also loved it and still frequently talks about it weeks later.

We went to Halifax and St.John. As for excursions, in St.John we did a trolley tour. It wasn't actually a trolley, but really a bus that looked like a trolley lol. It was an hour and 15 mins... stopped once to get a scenic view. Honestly, I'm not so sure I'd do an excursion there next time and just explore the town by foot. We kinda just signed up for an excursion bc we weren't sure what else would be in town but truthfully, most cruise ports are going to be touristy and accessible.

Halifax was BEAUTIFUL. We walked that one by foot and had a fabulous time (no excursion). Very scenic, cute park in the area.. Some local restaurants on the water if that's your thing.

If you have any questions, ask away. Lots of people were surprised when I said we were going north, and not the typical island cruise. We went north to avoid Zika. Honestly, Canada is beautiful. I'd totally do it again Zika or not.

Thanks! The 4 night stops in St. John. I was looking at the excursions and they didn't really appeal to me. We'd probably just explore on our own. How was the water. My DH said it would probably be choppy. And I was talking to my friend yesterday who did a cruise to Canada (not Disney) and she said she got so sick cause the water was rough.

Re: Disney cruise to Canada

I didn't find it to be choppy. There was ONE night where I felt the motion (compared to normally where I really didn't feel it at all).. but even then it wasn't BAD, just was aware of it. I was able to go to sleep and it was back to normal by the morning.

Have you ever cruised before? What time of year did your friend do the Canadian cruise? I think a bunch of factors can effect it, fortunately we were lucky to not hit up against any storms, etc. If motion is something you're concerned about, I suggest booking through a travel agent who can help guide you which staterooms will feel the least motion. Typically that's midship, on one of the higher floors. Having said that, we were quite forward because it's what was available when we booked and it was fine.
