Am I the only person on Long Island that doesn't have a generator? I tell my husband every year we should get one. And he never goes out to buy one.

generators
Well, right before Sandy DH was in HomeDepot and they had some available. He called me and asked if he should get one. Genius that I am said "no, we'll be fine. No need to spend $700". So of course, we were without power for more than 2 weeks and DH wanted to kill me. So we got one right after that.

Re: generators
We got one after being out 10 days for Sandy. Havent had to use it since. It was the best $750 insurance policy we ever spent!

generators
We don't have one. We bought our house in late 2015 so first hurricane we will own a house. The year prior we rented in an apartment complex that could run on a back up generator so no need for one. If worse comes to worse, my parents live a few blocks over and they have a whole house generator. We may reconsider after the babies are born but for now we are fine. We can shower and cook with the gas system in our house

Re: generators
Was living with my inlaws in amity harbor during Irene. No power for over a week. It was glorious having the whole house generator.
We bought one when we moved here but after sandy. We were only out for a day but with so many people out for so long, we felt it was better to have it

Re: generators
I actually just run an inverter off of my cars. Can't run the refrigerator, but we have coolers and ice from the freezer to manage for about a week. The inverter runs some lights, my Internet access, a laptop or two, charges the phones. I was working from home for a few days, just off of the car power.

That's too funny. My DH did this too for us during Sandy when we didn't have a generator at the time. It was mainly just used for hot water during showers.
