Re: Another what to give question for upstate wedding
For an out upstate wedding 150-200 is very generous.

With the situation you described, he should feel lucky to get $100 or the equivalent off the registry.

Re: Another what to give question for upstate wedding
Agreed with age consideration. When I got married 6 years ago, one friend gave 50 dollar gift. At that time this friend was in graduate school and I know did have much money. We did not have a registry. I didn't have a shower. Our friends at the time were all around 25. Now, When we go to weddings, my DH is nuts and literally goes by what the couple gave us at our wedding. So when this friend got married this last year, and had a nice but not typical LI style wedding in NJ, my DH wanted to give 100. I thought that was still small and don't agree with his gift tactics. I think we gave 150 or 200, forgot exactly. Guess my point is give what you feel comfortable. I wouldn't worry about what the person will think about the gift. Like I told my DH we aren't paying for our plate we are giving a gift (I know that's a whole other debate).
