Mystic in October
I wasn't going to make a new post because I know this destination has been discussed but in a nod to the thread on the search feature (which I didn't have much luck with ) I thought I'd ask anyway.
My 9 year old DD and I are going on a girls' only trip in early October. I booked the Howard Johnson's as many of the popular ones had no availability (it's Rosh Hashanah and thus a long weekend).
We will definitely do the aquarium and the Seaport. Anything else that's a must-do? Where can you get the best ice cream? We're also looking for restaurants that are older-kid-friendly but won't be overrun with really little kids (nothing against them, we are just past that stage and DD often gets from the adult menu anyway.)

Not sure about ice cream but we really liked the Daniel Packer Inn. We went for my mom's birthday (it was her, DS, and me) and that was her birthday dinner. The fish and chips were outstanding and everything else looked good too. We ate in the pub but there is also a fancier restaurant.

Thank you for the recommendation! That sounds great. I have been overwhelmed by all the restaurant options so it's good to have one checked off. :)

There is a great little ice cream place on the main street in Mystic by the bridge.

Re: Mystic in October
that's so funny, we just came back from there and stayed at the Howard Johnson! Great hotel. Pool looked nice but we didn't go in. There's a diner attached to the hotel that we really liked!
Across from the hotel is a shopping village called "Old Mystik Village". So super adorable. 60 shops in their own little "houses". There's a duck pond. Tons of adorable shops with a variety of themes. A must see and so close to the hotel. there's also a movie theater in there.
Not sure this would work for you with kids but we went to the seaport the last hour its open and got half price tickets. It was enough for us, but you might want to see all the demonstrations they do in the village (i.e. at the print shop etc). Be sure to go downstairs on the Charles W. Morgan whaling ship to see the shipmen's quarters. Fascinating and we saw kids really getting into it.

Yes this place is the best!! Mystic Draw Bridge Icecream I believe it's called. All sorts of awesome, highly recommend.
S&P Oyster Company is good for dinner, right on the other side of the bridge from the icecream place. Such a lovely little town with lots of charm. You're going to have a great time.
