Dallas :-(
Prayers for those families affected in Dallas last night and for all of Dallas and for all cops and their families around the world. 3 of our closest friends are cops and I worry so much about them

Awful. Act of domestic terrorism. protest was peaceful. Cops were taking pics with some protestors. It was supportive and peaceful and this happens at the end.

My heart says this was just a crazy person who took this protest and the latest police shootings as a good reason to go on a Killing spree. This goes right back to mental illness in this country.

I agree with mental health! Needs more attention. I work in the DD/ mental health field and it is grossly under funded, under estimated and little to no resources available. And the lack of education to all on mental health is a huge issue

Yes- and also way too much firepower for a civilian. A bad mix. That's what I don't understand about the gun debate- these powerful weapons make law enforcement's work SO much harder, and deadlier. Why do so many support the right of non-LE people to have them?

There are no words.
When I first heard the news my first thought was- thank god my father retired from the NYPD. I can't even begin to imagine what the families and brothers/sisters in blue are going through.
It's a scary world.

Unless I'm mistaken, I dont believe they have released any information on the type of weapons used in this shooting. A "sniper" could be using nothing more than a regular shotgun or rifle. If that's the case, those weapons are used all the time for hunting and even skeet shooting. I dont see any reason why people should NOT be allowed to own them. Again, I think this all goes back to proper background checks and mental health screenings prior to gun ownership. But to prevent anyone but LE to own guns isn't the answer.

Where did I say only police should own guns? I do agree that mental health checks are needed though I will never change my mind about assault weapons.

I work in an ER and had to report something. I am appalled at the system. Somehow if the person is in a Mental health "crisis" what they say doesn't matter. Give me an effing break. I don't care what you're doing if you make certain remarks in english and another language, say you are part of a terrorist group and threaten harm to the hospital and all the staff you DO NOT get a pass. Well you shouldn't but the fact that NO ONE took it serious is enraging. It went right up the chain. I'm losing faith and it's scary as shitt.

Re: Dallas :-(
So where were the "good guys with guns" who the NRA said would come and help? Deafening silence. There were multiple gun men and women. Yes mental heal is an issue in the US, but this was a pre planned, premeditated attack. Look, there are some bad officers, but there are also some bad people.

So related to this. I had Fox news Chicago on early this morning. they interviewed some women who was actually being featured on a Mohammed Ali story but they kicked it off with a question to her about her feelings on the Dallas Shooting - her response "maybe cops will now understand what it's like for black people to be shot at." ....... Absolutely Sick. That's the problem in this country. The media and government wants us divided and we buy into it. Wish people would rise above it. I believe the good outweigh the bad. We're ALL people. Black, white, gay, straight, man, women, trans, purple. It doesnt matter, ALL LIVES MATTER!!!!! Live and let live.
God bless us all. It's a scary world.

Re: Dallas :-(
Shooter was an army vet. He wore a uniform - which makes this even more insane.
Maybe PTSD?
So sad

Just saw this on CNN.com
The suspects Brown said authorities believe others in custody are connected to the shooting, though he didn't say they did any shooting. Authorities had said three people were in custody. "I'm not going to be satisfied until we've turned over every stone. We've got some level that this one suspect did do some of the shooting. But we're not satisfied that we've exhausted every lead," he said. "So if there's someone out there who's associated with this, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will bring you to justice."
And this:
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said Friday afternoon that investigators determined Johnson was "the lone shooter in this incident," confirming what federal officials had told CNN.

I don't think this is mental illness or PTSD
I think this is rage caused by the media. Misinformation and generalizations made to stir up controversy as they always do. They push to a fever pitch to be the biggest story out there. Well this is the result. It was a peaceful protest.
Where was the NRA where was blah blah blah all those accusations don't help. There were legal lawful gun carrying assault rifles on premises there during that protest. NONE were used against police. Some were handed over as I'm sure you guys have all seen the story of Mark Hughes but again the media twisted that and caused him a suspect first, when he was turning over his rifle instead to avoid any mistakes or misunderstandings. Doing the right thing.
Its a mess and frankly I'm tired of the media being the big spoon stirring the pot.

The media didn't twist the story about mark Hughes. The Dallas pd tweeted his picture and named him as a suspect.
