Lab for bloodwork for toddler? South shore Nassau.
Where do you take your toddler for blood work? This wasn't ordered by the ped, it's for the allergist, so we can't do it at the ped office. Also he has really bad veins and the ped nurses have had A LOT of trouble before. So we need to use a lab and I'd really like to traumatize him as little as possible. He's just over 2.5 and we live in Oceanside but I'll drive a bit if someone swears by a certain lab for their kid! Thanks!

I believe the Quest labs in Lake Success have a pediatric hematologist on staff (at least they did about 3 years ago)

I just came back from Quest Lab in Rockville Center. They were great. So patient finding a vein on my 8 month old. Took their time and interacted with him. I would definitely recommend them.

Not in Nassau but I take my daughter to the lab at Good Sam. The woman that took my daughter's blood last time was awesome. She said she does most of the kids that go in there and she works in the NICU as well. We went on a Saturday morning last time and there was no wait. My daughter is actually due for more blood work, too. The first time she needed blood work (at 6 months old) I used Sunrise Labs and did not have a good experience.

Make sure he's super hydrated. I went in the am w my DD once and she hadn't had a lot to drink and it was a horrible experience and a non successful one. We obviously had to try again and this time in he late afternoon with a juice box right before and it wasn't a problem!

I know you asked for South Shore Nassau but we got to a lab in Hicksville off of Hempstead Tpke. DC's doctor recommended a specific person in this lab because she works extremely well with kids.

Did your ped refuse to do it?
My DS has to have blood tests every 6 months for celiac and my ped does it for us and sends it to his GI doc
So much easier than going to a lab if possible

We've taken DS to Quest for any bloodwork he had to have. He hates it but they are really good with finding the vein and doing it as quick as possible.

Yes, we always go to Quest. They are really gentle with DS (will be 3 in 2 weeks) and get it done quickly. He screams but I think it's just the age. They are trained to do things like take blood so I like going there. I ALWAYS go to the one in Lake Success because it's closest and the wait is never long.

No suggestion but, my DS has bad veins too and the ped nurses had a lot of problems when he was in the hospital back in March. It was horrible to watch. He had to go to Quest a week afterwards and I was dreading it but, they did a great job. I made a comment about how hard it was for them to do and they were like this is our job - this is all we do!
