can I give Fish Oil to my daughter?
DD just turned 2 years old. In addition to the normal food she eats, she drank about 20oz of Horizon Milk with DHA a day.
She has eczema and even though she is not allergic to milk (she is allergic to tree nuts), we decided to cut out the milk (its been 2 weeks, no improvement) - my concern is that she lost out on the DHA.
I take a daily Fish Oil pill, can I squeeze the contents of the pill onto her food? She has eaten salmon before, so I don't think she would be allergic.
Thanks

I give my son fish oil, since he was 3. We use nordic naturals children's dha (liquid form). We put it into his yogurt smoothie each morning otherwise he won't take it by itself.

I would not squeeze a pill into your child's food. Ask your ped for advice.
But, if you eliminated milk and there's no improvement in eczema, why not add the milk back in?

Its been about 2 weeks. In previous posts here about her eczema people have said it takes a month to get the dairy out of body.
So right now the plan is to avoid milk for a month and give her Soy or Coconut milk instead.
No almond or Cashew milk, since she is allergic to tree nuts.

It takes months to reset the body from dairy and at 2 not necessary for dietary reasons. I went 3mos when I tried it and it worked with much success for my daughter. No eczema since and no weird rashes that 2 allergists and a ped could not tell me what it was. Finally a sensitivity but not an allergy, a sensitivity to what I kept asking?
I would not give soy milk. It mimics estrogen in the body. Coconut milk is great, buy it without carrageenan which is a seaweed derivative but there is a school of thinking it causes inflammation. Whole foods brand, so delicious brand, and trader joes refrigerated brand are all safe. I think natures promise is good too but check?
Also check out wellness mamas blog and kula mama blog. I am in NO way affiliated with either of them but they were helpful when I was having difficulty with my daughter "allergic reactions" that are no allergy based and eczema.
Finally I had some success soothing her skin with Shea raw brand eczema and psoriasis body wash. I got at target and squeezed it in the tub when she took a bath. It was the ONLY thing that didn't inflame her. Even coconut oil did nothing for her eczema.

can I give Fish Oil to my daughter?
Saw the pediatrician and asked about the fish oil. I said: "We were giving Horizon milk which had DHA. now we stopped and started with Soy and I am worried DD is not getting enough DHA" (then again, DS is breast feed, is there DHA in breast milk?)
The pediatrician said: Its not needed to give it as a supplement (it seemed like he felt DHA wasn't THAT important) He also said that since it has been about 3 weeks and there's no improvement then we should switch back to milk. (since DD had eczema when she was 6 months old and she wasn't drinking milk then anyway) He said there are concerns (but nothing proven) about soy's effect on girls. He said coconut/almond/hemp milk is not as nutritious as soy or regular milk.

Re: can I give Fish Oil to my daughter?
Did your wife stop ingesting milk products as well? I tried the elimination diet when my DS was 14 months old, but after three weeks I saw no improvement so I just went back to dairy.
At 6 months your DD was exposed to dairy because she was drinking BM.
I would definitely be concerned about soy milk. When I had DS on his elimination diet, we both only drank coconut milk.
At 2, I would think your DD could get most of her nutrients from other foods and would not need to rely on dairy products so coconut milk being not as nutritious would not be an issue.
