Services for Two Year Old?
Our ped told us we shouldn't apply at this time and we saw the super conservative doctor at the practice. My son just turned two and he has a ton of words, but not many sentences. My older one went to camp/school at this age and I felt ok as he could communicate. My youngest definitely can't communicate. He doesn't say cup, for example. He does has a lot of worlds and can say abcs and numbers. I just don't think he is clear with his very limited fragment sentences. He is the youngest of three. What do your two year olds say? If you applied for speech services, why? Thanks!

I would call your county's early intervention office. You'll be assigned a case worker and they'll have an evaluation set up to see if he qualifies for speech therapy.
Dd1 had physical therapy through EI for late walking.

Dd will be 2 next month and has a decent vocab. She doesn't know her numbers or abcs yet though, and her sentences are minimal. I'm really not worried about it though, and haven't even said anything to her ped

Re: Services for Two Year Old?
Does he understand what is being said to him? Are the words that he does use meaningful? If he's the baby of the family, it's not uncommon for his language to be a little behind what you remember his older siblings to be, bc everyone in the family kinda knows what he wants and needs and just does for him, he doesnt "need" to use his words, kwim? What you've described doesn't raise any red flags to me, but you're his mom and an evaluation can't hurt if you think he needs it.

Services for Two Year Old?
My DS just turned 2 and it's like a switch turned on - suddenly he's like a little parrot and repeats everything. I'd give it a month or two and see if he makes any progress.

I think he sounds perfectly normal for just turning two year old. My daugther was far less advanced and we still were told to wait until 3 because so much can happened between 2 and 3.

Also if he is the youngest of 3 I'm sure he doesn't even get a chance to finish thoughts. Happens ally he time the older ones "talk for them"

If you are looking for services from EI they are very hard to get for speech. If he has words and is putting two words together he is perfectly on target. My son was barely putting two words together at 2. We had him tested and he scored way too high to qualify.

Re: Services for Two Year Old?
DS2 did not have any sentences at 2 either. My ped said it's pretty normal for boys to be at that stage on their 2nd bday. He wanted us to come back at 2.5 if it didn't improve. But he's now 2 and 8 months and has been talking in full sentences (and nonstop) since about 2 and 3 or 4 months. I think your DS sounds great and would give it a little more time.

My DS is 2.5 and just now is coming into the "word explosion." I say give it some more time, but keep an eye on it just in case.
