Please recommend your external hard drive
I have a mac incase that makes a difference. Not sure if all of them are compatible with mac.

I dont currently have one so I can't make a recommendation. But wanted to recommend you buy a solid state one. I had one of those ones that had the spinning disc inside, and it dropped while I was uploading photos to it. I lost pretty much everything, the exact opposite reason you get an external hard drive.

What is the primary purpose of the drive? To transport data between two PCs? As a backup solution? Just more space to store movies, music, files, etc?
Will you be carrying it around, or will it be basically just staying on your desk?
How much storage space do you think you need? A couple of hundred GBs, or a couple of Terabytes? (A Terabyte is 1000 Gigabytes).
Solid states are great, unless you want to store TBs of data. That's why the questions are important. The last three laptops I bought have solid state drives, but my external drives are platters because I need the capacity.

Just looking to back up files, mainly pictures on 1 computer incase something happens to the computer so we don't lose everything. Unfortunately I have no idea how much storage I would need because I don't know what amount of files the storage holds.
It will mainly be staying on the desk.

I usually get western digital brand. I haven't bought 1 in a while. I would make sure you always have the pictures in 2 places (computer and external hard drive or 2 external drives) lIke you are trying to do. As a pp mentioned, my hard drive fell (DD1 dropped it off the desk) and my hard drive would no longer work. Luckily, I had another hard drive and I don't think I lost anything.
