Continue to potty train or back off for a while

DS turned 2 in March. I was not planning on potty training him until summer but he was showing major interest and going pee pee on the potty on average if about 3 times a day. I bit the bullet and went balls to the wall this past week since I was on vacay. He has done decent but not great. For the past week I would say he had about 4/5 pee accidents and 1 poopy accident. He tells he he has to go often but I also ask him like every 10 minutes. Tonight he peed his pants right after I asked if he had to go and he said no. I put a diaper on him since it was close to bed time anyway and about 15 minutes later he peed in his diaper and told me while he was doing it. He does get upset when he has an accident but when I trained dd she just got it right away. Not sure if I should keep at it or back off because maybe he is not ready. Advice? Thoughts?

I would continue but ease up a little bit. I tired pushing dd a bit and it totally backfired. I went back to a more laid back approach and used pull up to transition- she started doing much better- I kept track of when she was going for a few weeks and noticed a pattern so I started to have her sit on the potty around those times and after a couple of days of her being successful she has started to tell me nearly every time she has to go- I still ask periodically and make her try before we go out. I put her in panties today after five days of no accidents in the pull up and she did not have any accidents. I also use rewards- she has a sticker chart I made and she gets two mini Swedish fish after she successfully uses the potty. Initially, I had her pick out a few inexpensive toys and she earned one if she was accident free the entire day. This week she will get a small craft Set she picked out if she is accident free for the entire week.

Sounds like he's interested but not ready yet. I'd just keep encouraging him, but not push it. Maybe put him in pull-ups instead of diapers to get him used to the idea of pulling underwear down. He's still very young. At that age my DS was deathly afraid of even sitting on the potty. But he fully trained before 3yo.

I think you are there... Just stick to it.
Boys are different in general. DD trained in a day. DS took a while to be accident free.

I agree that it sounds like he's interested but not yet ready. It shouldn't be a difficult process, when they're ready, they just do it. My DS trained in 1 day about 10 days before he turned 3. My DS2 told me today that he wants to say "bye bye pampers" but i'm not ready He's just over 2.5. He just wants me to buy him batman undies.

We trained DS at around that age (DS was 28 mos) and it definitely took longer for it to "click" for him than his older sister. He was having constant tiny accidents that were just enough to have to change his underwear. But then all of a sudden one evening I realized he had gone all day with no accidents, and after that we never looked back.

So as long as it's not becoming frustrating for your DS, or it's not turning into a power struggle between you and him, I'd keep at it. You never know when he will get it and stay dry! It could be tomorrow.

He might be too young. I had tried w Dd around 2.5 bc she was interested, but she had a lot of accidents, so I completely stopped for a few months, and then when we tried again when she was a little older she got it easily within a couple days.

I tried "training" DS but he wouldn't do it. I just asked him in the morning when he got up and at night before he went to bed if he wanted to go on the potty. If he said no, I'd just tell him ok maybe tomorrow. One morning he just woke up, said he wanted to go on the potty and that was that. No pee or poop accidents and no stress at all.

I also tried training my DD right after her 2nd Bday and she did ok but was having multiple accidents and not telling me. I back off and figured I would try again this summer.

I feel like, when THEY Are ready, PT is easy! If they arent, its a frustrating process!

My first son was 2.5yo when I PT him, He was pee pee trained in 1 day. Going #2 wasnt easy but he never had accidents.

DS2 was so interested in PT at 2.5 so we tried, didnt take. At 3 I tried and it still was a struggle! For MONTHS we fought through it! and it took forever! then one day he just stopped having accidents! I dont know what clicked! but it did and that was that!

If he doesnt seem ready I would keep encouraging him to use the potty, but I wouldnt potty train him right now!

Just a quick update: Everett hasn't had any accidents in the past 3 days. Going to go forward with it. Thanks for the advice
