Sleeping HELP
DS is 6 months old and used to be a pretty good sleeper. Lately, he'll wake up screaming bloody murder at midnight. I give him bottle, fall asleep in my arms, as soon as I put him down in his crib, he starts screaming again. I give him Tylenol, Motrin, Teething Tablets, etc for teeth and nothing works. He still wakes up every night at midnight screaming. So I've been putting him in the swing and he calms down and falls asleep until 7am in there. What do I do? Continue putting him in swing when he wakes up? I'm exhausted. Please help!

Has he been needing a bottle in the middle of the night? Is there a reason why you are giving him a bottle at midnight? If he didn't need a bottle before, I wouldn't start that now. It's most likely a sleep regression. You could go in, say it's time for night night, put him back down and rub his back for a few minutes and then walk out. He needs to self soothe back to sleep.

I used to give him a bottle and he would go right back to sleep without a peep. Now, he still screams after bottle.

He really shouldn't be needing to eat in the middle of the night anymore - this is most likely a habit for him at this point. I really would try to wean him from this bottle. Just keep decreasing the amount you give him until he sleeps through the night.

Yea, I agree about the bottle but the bottle hasn't helped lately either.
He just wakes up screaming at midnight.

Then I would go in and comfort him and pat his back for a few minutes and walk out. Do a modified CIO if you are comfortable with that. He needs to self soothe. He's associating seeing you at midnight for a wake up, so you need to break that habit.

My son did the same thing....its tortuous! I wish there was a magic answer I could give you but he will out grow it. Just make sure he's not having any gas prob after the bottle (if he has any during the day too then you'd know and can try gas drops) otherwise just hang in there he'll slowly start to get outta it. Oh and make sure he's warm enough too, my son now always sleeps worse if he's not warm enough.

You're right. He just screams uncontrollably that I think something's wrong.

Thanks! It is tortuous! I didn't think of gas bc he's been fine during the day. I guess I'm just going to hang in there. How many months would you say your DS was when he got better with that?

What do you have him in to sleep? Is he in a sleep sack or just pajamas? From 4-8 months my DD went through an awful sleep regression where she would wake up every couple of hours screaming. We had her in the Merlin suit and transitioned her to a sleep sack at around 6 months and it definitely helped, but honestly it wasn't until about 8 months that something clicked and she just started sleeping through the night. Now she sleeps a full 12-13 hours at 21 months :)

Re: Sleeping HELP
You're creating a sleep association, feeding him to sleep. I'd cut out the bottle entirely.
Personally, I did CIO at 6 months with DD and it was the best thing we could have done. It's not for everyone, but it will certainly get you sleep again.

Re: Sleeping HELP
How does he fall asleep at night? Can he fall asleep on his own at bedtime? Not sure if this pertains to your situation, but once we stopped rocking DD to sleep at bedtime (which did require CIO), she stopped waking up during the night.

I usually give him a bottle before bed on our rocking chair and I put him down in his crib and he's fine from 8-8:30 until midnight and then he starts screaming at midnight.

I'd say about 9-10 months or so....he still has his nights when he doesn't sleep well (I'm going thru it right now bc he's teething)
