Also what do they while they are there, just watch/entertain the kids, light housekeeping?

Do I feed her, have stuff she likes, or does she worry about her own meals? Do you pay the nanny everyday, at the end of the week, every two weeks?

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids
how long are they there for? 830-530 how many kids? and ages 4 kids most days not all when big boys in school (7,6,2, and 4 month)
is it off the books? combo do you pay them for days they are not there? If I give her the day off I pay her and usually if she takes a random day I will pay her. If she takes extra vacation I usually do not. She has been with us since my oldest was 4 months so she is very good and I want to treat her well.
She does light housekeeping and laundry. She never sits around. I say she does to much for me :)

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids
She is there from 3:30 - 5:30 pm (sometimes 6:30) 3 kids ages 12, 10, and 8 I pay her $10 an hour off the books I do not pay her on the days she is not there.
She does homework with them, plays with them, and hangs out with them until I get home from work.

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids
how long are they there for? 15 hours a week, M/T 9-2 and Friday 1-6. how many kids? and ages? 22 months and 4 how much do you pay them? $15 an hour cash is it off the books? yes do you pay them for days they are not there? No

I leave out activities for her, she is in college, studying Elem ed, so she often has her own ideas. She will let them play, she cleans up after them, washes their dishes. She doesn't touch our laundry or clean up anything other then the kids.

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids
My sister has a nanny, has watched her 3 kids since the youngest was an infant, now two are in pre-k a few days a week for half days, and 1 is in kindergarten. Hours are 630-4, she pays her off the books, my sister is a teacher so she doesn't pay her full salary over the summer but she has her come 1-2x a week just to help out in the summer and pays her for those days. I don't think she does any housekeeping.

She is there M, Th, F from 7am-4pm (sometime earlier or lateer depending on our work schedules) 2 kids ages 18 months and 5 years old. We pay her $15 an hour and usually round up to the half hour. Off the books We don't pay her when she's not there, but my husband is a teacher and home all summer and just like the PP said we have her come 1 or 2 days a week to help out and we pay her for those days. She cleans up after the kids washes their dishes, she used to do bottles and she drives my 5yo to school and picks her up after school. She spends a lot of time playing with them and taking the baby for walks during the day.

OP, can I add a few questions? I just hired a part time nanny and was wondering... Do I feed her, have stuff she likes, or does she worry about her own meals? Do you pay the nanny everyday, at the end of the week, every two weeks?

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids UPDATED w/additonal questions
we would ask for items she wanted us to keep on hand for her lunches and would do our best to have those. she didn't make outrageous demands - we had cheese, bread, cold cuts, eggs. she usually brings her own food but the option was always there for her to eat our stuff exclusively i just wasn't guaranteeing amazing, gourmet lunches on the daily. and any leftovers from dinners i'd cooker are always up for grabs too.
paid weekly.

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids UPDATED w/additonal questions
how long are they there for? 8-6 how many kids? and ages 2 - from DS at 4mos to DD at 5yrs do you pay them for days they are not there? Yes I paid her a weekly salary even weeks we took vacation (which came to about 6 weeks) but we always treated her well and she was amazing to us in return.
Also what do they while they are there, just watch/entertain the kids, light housekeeping? Mine did all the laundry, straightened up the house, would run an occasional errand (moreso when they were in school for part of the day), sometimes do baths and throw dinner I prepped in the oven for me.
Do I feed her, have stuff she likes, or does she worry about her own meals? Mine was a health nut so she always preferred to bring hers. I always said help yourself to anything but she rarely did.
One question not asked but might be helpful was mine drove and used her car so I paid her extra for that.

I usually have stuff in the fridge if the person will be at our house. All the people who we had ended up bringing their own food (they get sick of cheese sticks, cereal & leftovers).
We paid at the end of the week.

Re: if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids UPDATED w/additonal questions
We had a nanny for 2 years....
how long are they there for? 7:45-6 how many kids? and ages? 1 DD. She was with us from 3 months - 26 months. how much do you pay them? $475 / week + commuting costs is it off the books? yes do you pay them for days they are not there? yes. We never docked her pay if she needed a day off -- or if she was sick.. We treated her like salary. She never abused it either.
Also what do they while they are there, just watch/entertain the kids, light housekeeping? we always wanted our DD to be her first priority and never wanted her to stress about things being clean by the time i got home. She would do DD laundry, and straighten up her room and the den where she was the most. She did dishes - emptied the dishwasher, and some basic tidying up. But I never asked her to. She would sometimes do our laundry but again I never asked her to.
Do I feed her, have stuff she likes, or does she worry about her own meals? I always made sure I had food in the house for her. She never asked for anythign specific but we made sure there was food for her. Some days i I was WFH I would go pick up lunch.
Do you pay the nanny everyday, at the end of the week, every two weeks? Every Friday.
Feel free to PM me with any questions.

if you have someone come to your house to watch your kids UPDATED w/additonal questions
if someone comes to your house to watch your kids
how long are they there for? 8am-6pm I also send my son to school from 9:30am-12:30pm. I personally drop and pick up. On Tuesdays, i watch my son all day and help the nanny with my youngest. I do a lot of work from home and tend to have her concentrate on cleaning up while i watch the kids.
how many kids? and ages 2 kids 2.5 and 9 months
how much do you pay them? $625-$700 a week If she works extra hours, i pay her the additional and if she works less, i dock her pay. If she does laundry and clean for me, i pay extra. I give her any extra hours she needs.
is it off the books? Yes
do you pay them for days they are not there? Absolutely not... She is off the books and i dont treat her job as a salaried employee since im not getting a tax benefit. I do give her one paid day off for her bday and give her an extra $300 that day as well.
Also what do they while they are there, just watch/entertain the kids, light housekeeping? All of the above... Sometimes the kids are a lot to handle and the home doesn't get picked up but as long as the kids are happy, thats all that matters.
thanks for all the information you can give me
ETA: adding questions Jodi asked:
Do I feed her, have stuff she likes, or does she worry about her own meals? I feed her whatever she wants... We also gave her an extra credit card to use to buy whatever food she wants when she does grocery shopping for us. She does that if i happen to be in the office everyday.
Do you pay the nanny everyday, at the end of the week, every two weeks? End of week
