Non-Birthday Party ideas for 5 yo girl?

The past two years DD has had a birthday party. For a couple reasons, we are not having one this year, although she really wants one. I just don't think it's going to work out. So I'm trying to come up with a really fun way to celebrate her birthday.

I will be about 36 weeks pregnant at the time. I've been thinking about doing the American Girl store birthday thing that they do and maybe inviting her grandmas to come also. I'm just nervous about going to the city at 36 weeks pregnant. I already have to pee at least once and hour and I know how hard bathrooms can be to come by in the city. Also, I was just in the hospital and had a be given IV fluids and a shot to stop contractions, so there's that too. DD even goes back and forth on if she's even interested in that idea.

If anyone has any suggestions for to a fun way to celebrate, I'd love to hear them! I have a few weeks left to plan and I'm trying to come up with something good.

build a bear, local nail salon for a spa day Maybe she invite 1 or 2 close friends so it is somewhat of a party?
lunch and a movie.. trying to think of ideas that don't require much walking or travel for you. Do you have a local pottery painting place you can take her to?

American Girl is awesome but I wouldn't do it at 9 mo pregnant. I also suggest a nail salon and then maybe ice cream or a movie? She will love being pampered.

I gotta say that imo a couple girls at your house sounds much more appealing to me at 9 months preg than going anywhere

I'd say Build-a-Bear or a spa day either with you and the grandmas or one or two of her closest friends. My 5 year old would love either one. My DD's best friend didn't have a party this year either and her mom just had 3 kids over for a play date, so that's another thought.
