Febrile seizure?
Out of nowhere, DD's fever spiked last night and was about 102.8. She was fine all day at daycare, came home played and ate dinner. She started to scutch which usually means it's time to start the nightly routine with bath time. She loves bathtime and just wasn't into it last night. All of a sudden in the tub, she zoned out and was staring forward, but not actually looking at anything. She then shook for a second, like she had a chill. I took her out of the bath and she was murmuring a bit and then all of a sudden was asleep. Not lightly asleep, full on deep sleep. That's when I took temperature and saw 102.8. The thought of a seizure didn't even cross my mind until a friend mentioned it after I told her what happened. I'm now freaked out thinking that yes, she definitely had a febrile seizure. Anyone's children have this? Is it common? DD is 9.5 months old. Fever is now 99 and responded well to Motrin. Please help calm this first time momma's nerves.

I have not personally experienced this but I know two people who have and while absolutely terrifying these seizures are benign and the kids who experience them suffer no long term consequences. Call your ped to let them know and have them put your mind at ease.

The fact that it happened in the bath might be it, because I have heard that febrile seizures come not from the high fever itself, but when the fever is brought down quickly, like in a lukewarm tub.
It's possible.
I would call my ped for peace of mind

My DD had a febrile seizure when she was 14 mos. It was one of the scariest things I've ever been through. My DD had hers in the car seat on the way to the pediatrician. Full on shaking and no response even though I was screaming her name. It still brings me to tears as I write this.
The dr put a full wet body compress on her to bring the temp down, gave her oxygen, and when she stabilized, Motrin. We then took an ambulance to the hospital. She had 104 fever when she was admitted. She then developed Roseola. For the next 8 months, she was literally sick every 3 weeks. We are super careful every time she gets a fever knock though knock wood, no more episodes.
Previous posters are correct to call dr for peace of mind. It sounds like she is fine. I'm sure you would know if something was off.

This. Febrile seizures are caused by bringing a fever down too quickly. You want it to come down only about 1 degree per hour.
Super scary, but I'm sure she's fine. Call the ped just to be sure. I bet they'll want you to bring her in.
Also, do you have a thermometer for the baby's bath? It may help to make sure you're giving her baths at a warm enough temperature.

Febrile seizure?
My nephew use to have them and since outgrown them. They are extremely scary to witness. I would 100% call your ped to be sure and to get a diagnosis. They can provide you with the best advice to manage going forward. I remember my nephew did see a neurologist as a precaution to rule anything else out so do not be alarmed if that is the next step, might be standard protocol for some doctors.

Yes, it can also be from the fever going up very fast. My DD had a few febrile seizures as an infant; plus is predisposed to seizures. The ped and neuro treat them very aggressively so that they don't spike.
