Hospital Bag and Baby's First Days at Home, help!!!
I'm getting ready to deliver my first, ETA 5 weeks!!! So I'm looking for advice on your must haves in the hospital (for yourself and baby) and what I should have in the house for the baby when he/she comes home. I didn't have a shower so gifts won't arrive till after I deliver. Oh and I plan to breastfeed. Thanks in advance!!!

Nothing in the hospital for baby. And truthfully you don't need much. They will give you everything you need medically so just pack clothes and toiletries.
First days home. Pads for you and then diapers and formula ( if you are using it).
IMO the lists get crazy and I wished I saved all my money cause we really didn't need much.

Like you, I didn't have a shower. I had NOTHING in the house. I held dd while DH put together the rock n play when we got home. There was nowhere else to put her!
For hospital: car seat, outfit For home: Somewhere for baby to sleep/be put down (crib, RNP, PNP, etc.) Diapers Wipes Clothes (stock up on sleep n plays) Receiving blankets Changing pad (or something to throw on the floor to change baby) Pacifiers Swaddles or swaddle blankets (I'm a terrible swaddler so I got the halo ones)
Pads and comfy clothes for you.

Thanks ladies!
I have the bassinet but was thinking of maybe getting myself the swing or something like that and then returning it when I get it from my registry with my original receipt so it doesn't actually end up costing me anything. I need a place to put the baby for sure!

Depends on where youre delivering, but I'll tell you what I found useful: for baby: Take-home outfit, baby shampoo, baby wash, a newborn soothie pacifier, a towel for me: My own towel and pillow, toiletries and makeup, ipad, extension cords and phone.
I delivered in NSUH and they no longer give you baby wash/shampoo for the sponge bath, nor do they give you pacifiers.

I agree that you don't need much for the baby- an outfit to go home in and a pacifier if you want to use one. I keep hearing that a lot of hospitals don't give them out anymore. If you are planning on breastfeeding, I found a boppy really helpful in the hospital. Everyone is different. I know lots of people who never used it but it was a lifesaver for me. I also brought cheap underwear that I could throw away if they got messy which was a good thing. As for when you get home, a place to put the baby down is good! Another random thing I found helpful is water bottles. I was so thirsty when I was breastfeeding and DS nursed for what felt like hours on end. It was easier to have a water bottle with a cap that I could throw next to me on the couch and not have to move him if he was nursing or sleeping on me. Congratulations!

I'd bring a boppy pillow and a pacifier for baby.

They will give a pacifier if you're not breastfeeding.

I agree with items mentioned above as well as burp cloths and motrin for yourself
Also if you are having a boy some gauze pads and ointment

a glider.
we didnt get one and then the first week home we needed a place to just rock DS to sleep. I remember DH going to kmart and getting one.
you dont really need much at home... maybe a rocking / boppy seat thing, bassinet or crib depending where the baby is sleeping.
diapers
wipes
onesies and sleep sacks, burp cloths.
