Fussy baby or something else
My DD is 4 weeks old. She started showing signs of reflux last week. She was gagging after bottles and crying. We switched her formula to similac for spit up. After a few days the gaggng stopped but she was still fussy after eating so the ped put her on zantac on Thurs. I still don't think she's comfy. She eats well but an hour or so later she screams, stiffens her legs out and farts a lot. It's not after every bottle but I just don't think she should be crying like that when she's not hungry. Anyone go through this? Did anything help?

Sounds like gas too To be honest, time is the only thing that helped us. Their digestive systems are just not developed enough at that age. If you watch the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD, the Dr in it explains it well.
You can try gas drops or gripe water, but honestly, for us, it took time

Re: Fussy baby or something else
My son was similar and I think gas was his main problem. He was constantly stiffening his legs and screaming. Change in formula, gas drops, gripe water, nothing really made a difference. Time was the only thing that helped. Around 4 months, he had outgrown it and was a happy boy.

I agree that it sounds like gas. DS did better on Nutramigen. Nothing helped DD except for time. She eventually outgrew it.

Gripe water worked like a miracle for us when my DD was gassy. Also, try bicycling her legs, it'll help move things along.

Re: Fussy baby or something else
I think that must be the age where most babies have some digestive issues because DC both struggled at that age and I feel like I always seem new moms posting about this.
We used gripe water and probiotics but I really believe it was just a matter needing time for their tummies to adjust.

Re: Fussy baby or something else
my dd was the same way and i knwo its controversial.. but i started napping her on her belly.. i would be there to watch.
she got a lot of gas out that way and it really helped. i also kept her upright as long as i could after eating, etc.
but i also think she did just outgrow it at one point. i think as said above, theyre still developing.
i was so scared something was really wrong and it just kind of went away as she grew.

My 5 month was like that. I switched her formula 3 times and it took about 4 weeks before the last one made a difference... Or she finally grew out of it. We did a lot of gas drops, gripe water, colic calm, bicycling of legs.
Similac Total Comfort was the winner.

For us it was reflux and dairy protein intolerance (not allergy) She ended up on Alimentum and Zantac after many many meds and a few formula changes... She was very gassy, very uncomfortable, wasnt sleeping well especially at night, couldnt sleep flat, constantly eating but in small amounts... Once she got on new formula and meds she was completely fine after 1 week. I tried everything, gripe water, camomile tea, gas drops, and changed her bottle a few times until I found the right bottles. Playtex drop ins worked best for her.

Re: Fussy baby or something else
My dd2 is also 4 weeks old and we are dealing with the same thing. We are now on nutramigen. It's better but not great. We do gas drops and colic drops - who knows if they work? She sleeps in the Rock and play - laying flat is a disaster. My dd1 had a milk allergy and was on rx formula - it was definitely different than just gas. She had eczema, about 12 poops/day, severe diaper rashes, and a higher level of discomfort. I think it's just something dd2 needs to outgrow.

Yes, it def sounds like gas. I agree with the Happiest Baby DVD, he actually shows u ways u can carry ur baby to help with the gas and to calm down. There's a book about it too but I prefer the DVD.

Fussy baby or something else
My dd is 7 weeks old and screams like I never thought possible and sleeps less than most adults I know. Blood curdling, ear piercing screams. She is on alimentum which helps a bit, but she also has a milk protein allergy. Gas drops did nothing. We do tummy time daily and I lay her on my chest, stomach down when she gets really bad and pat her back. I also hold her upright for 20-30 minutes after each feeding. She needs to be moving constantly or she goes nuts- we dance her around the house, take her for walks I can't say any of this makes a huge impact though, she is a miserable little thing!

im not a mommy, so I can be off but.
do 4 week olds take a bath? if so, what about letting her tushy sit in warm water bath. My grandma use to say, sitting in a warm tub helped relive gas, and she was correct.

Thanks everyone. We've tried gas drops and I don't think they do anything for her. I'll try the gripe water. The bath may help but she would be in the bath all day at the rate she's having these crying episodes!!
I have a 2 yo and 3 yo so it's been challenging having her so uncomfortable! She was also in the hospital with RSV for 8 days so I hate seeing her in pain. I think I will talk to the ped about trying another formula to see if it helps.

I haven't used this, but the same company that makes this made the Snot Sucker and that thing is amazing.

It's getting good reviews on Amazon, it may be worth a try.

Sounds exactly like how my DD was as an infant. Exactly
