I think my cleaning lady ruined my floors

So I have laminate floors and between my bathroom and my sons bedroom my floors are now bucking. I know this wasn't the case this morning. I'm not against there being a leak somewhere but I have looked under every sink and door that could have a leak and don't see one. I did text my cleaning lady but of course she hasn't gotten back to me. I am not sure even what to do at this point. I've had her for a couple years although she hasn't come in a couple months.

Just suddenly? Usually it happens over time.

I'm not sure what the stretch would be. My husband thinks that they may have spilled a bucket of water on the floor but I don't think it would have been ruined so quickly. I have no idea where a leak could be coming from if it wasn't that.

Other than a leak, the only thing I would think could cause that is if she used a steamer on them.

My parents had this happen on their first floor. Water seeped in thru a retaining wall and went under the floors and buckled them. With the cold, it could speed up the process.

I don't hAve laminate floors but from what I understand they are pretty durable. I don't see how even if they spilled something this would happen so quickly. I know wooden floors do expand and contract with heat and cold. Mine buckled in a couple areas but that has to do with installation. The guys who did my floors did a horrible job. If dh didn't know them I wouldn't have paid them.

Re: I think my cleaning lady ruined my floors

I agree that I am not sure how it happened so quickly. I have had them for 5 years and it's never happened in the cold before. Or in any spots. And like I said it wasn't there this morning when I left for work. We don't have a basement (levitt house). How would I know if there is a leak in a retaining wall? Heck I don't even know what a retaining wall is!

I think It definitely could happen from a bucket of water. My parents have laminate floors in a levitt house and they had an issue when reattaching their washer machine hose and some water leaked and their floors buckled immediately.

There are lots of pipes under the flooring. Maybe one of those has a leak?

I don't think spilling a bucket of water can make your floors buckle that quick.

They would buckle over excessive exposure to water. Otherwise, they would just not be used in homes - anyone can spill something. If they got ruined that quick no one would ever use them.

I would keep looking for a leak somewhere.

I have a 2 year old who has spilled numerous things on our floors and that has never happened. It would I think take water being spilled over and over again. Plus your feet I'm sure are damp when you come out of the shower so over a prolonger time that may occur.

Do you have radiant heat in the floor?

Re: I think my cleaning lady ruined my floors

I have laminate. she mops and that ruins floor over time.

it should be done with a wet cloth, swifer type. never with direct water/mop.

Def could be what happened.

Re: I think my cleaning lady ruined my floors

Thanks for your suggestions. I thought of a bunch of things and had my neighbors husband who is a plumber come over and look around for everything. He didn't find any leaks and said we really don't have any pipes under our houses. He said that there could have been the possibility that I had a leak somewhere and it seeped into that spot but he finds it unlikely because it probably wouldn't have been in such a large area over a 12 hour period. He agrees that the cleaning ladies may have spilled a bucket and it got underneath the transition piece and into the pieces. Also, I asked her if anything happened and of course she has not texted me back. He said that a similiar thing happened in his house when his son spilled water from a fish tank. While it is near my bathroom, and possibly could have been worn over time, it wouldn't have buckled in such a large area over such a short period of time. I KNOW it wasn't like that in the morning because I weigh myself every day and put my scale in the same spot (which now has water damage). It is what it is, I just wish people were honest and actually told me what happened instead of making me crazy and wondering.

ETS: I leave the swiffer wet jet out for her so she knows she is supposed to use that on the floor, rather than the mop.

No baseboard and I have checked every baseboard for a leak.

Being you're on a concrete slab, check your foundation. Water actually came up from the foundation in my parents' house. They didn't know where it came from until they ripped up the section and found the crack and they had a vapor barrier that should have prevented it but didnt.
