Re: what's the difference..
mamaroo is a swing....rock and play is kinda like a bassinet with bells and whistles. Nothing is necessary but I liked the rock and play. The mamaroo my ds hated.

Re: what's the difference..
Sorry to hijack but if you have a Mamaroo do you need a swing? Ive been wondering this myself.
ETA: I wouldnt trade my RNP for anything. That thing is a Godsend!

Each kid is a little different but for my son, he would sleep in the mamaroo -- it is a glider so it would glide him to sleep and keep him asleep with nice, gliding motions. It even had a built-in sound machine and I could put white noise or the ocean on for him while he snoozed.
The swing, is totally different because it actually swings -- for my son, he loved to "play" in that because he just enjoyed the swing itself. Some people's kids sleep in a swing -- my son didn't. He actually just enjoyed it for entertainment purposes.
Everyone is different but that's the difference -- one is a swing and one glides.

The rock n play is cheaper & the type of motion is different. I have the old rock n play with no battery needed. My kids both loved it.

I've had 3 friends purchase the Mamaroo and they all ended up returning it or using a traditional swing. I loved my swing and my DS was in it for almsot a year.

I have both. I generally use the rock n play for naps and the mamaroo for when she's awake and/or needs to be calmed down (she's asleep in it right now and I am NOT moving her).
She slept in the rock n play exclusively in the beginning but now I've transitioned her to the bassinet portion of the pack n play at night.

I have both but I actually prefer the rock n play, both of my DSs outgrew it way before time, we couldn't even use it that much

We use the mamaroo in lieu of a traditional swing. The rock n play is very different.

Re: what's the difference..
RNP is a non negotiable must have.
The mamaroo is more like a glider than a swing. I returned the swing given to me because I had the mamaroo. Big mistake.

Re: what's the difference..
Every baby is different and likes different things.
DS loved the swing. We didn't have a RNP, wouldn't have needed it.
DD loved the RNP and didn't like the swing. At our house, at least. We put it away months ago, but she loves the same exact swing at her day care.
