Post Christmas Review of LittleBits..
Ok so I got the Gadgets & Gizmo set for AJ.
She LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES It! Can't stop asking to build stuff. Wants to try new stuff. She asked to build a remote controlled robot first. She loved it, called it "Flattie". Note to all If you get the set, notice the level of difficulty. We failed to notice this was a level 5 out of 5. haha now she doesn't want to try any of the level 1-4, as they seem 'boring'.
So here's my complaints. They come with Mounting boards to put the circuits on.... sort of like legos flat pieces. The 'feet' are created when the two circuits hold together. Well guess what? It does NOT hold well at ALL! I ended up using rubber bands but seriously it was horrible at first and nearly ruined our fun.
After HARD HARD use of the robot and harder use by a boy cousin of mine, the power circuit came unsoldered. :(
However, I had warned her that it may break, no worries we'd fix it. I was thinking more along the lines of the magnetic pieces coming apart so we'd snap them back or the mounting board failures.. (which I must say we had SEVERAL of these, plus ramming the bot into walls and wheels snapping off!) but I was not expecting snapping a circuit itself. No solid connection meant no power to the wireless receiver. Bummer. But we glazed over it. She moved on. I recorded it failing.
Here's the feed back: I posted on Facebook early that xmas morning about the annoying mounting board after I realized this was a 'new' feature for them. Seems until now you were on your own for mounting it on to something else. Popsicle sticks, legos, cardboard, whatever you could dream up. So honestly this was their attempt to fill a void. I posted on xmas day.
They IMMEDIATELY responded. Realizing that sending me a new board would not help, they offered $10 off my next item.
Not bad and also others started to join my post that they had the same experience and they responded to both of us stating R&D would take a look again at the issues.
That night I added to my post with the failure of the power circuit. Again, they immediately responded with the offer to replace the item free of charge as soon as possible. Today, I emailed them as requested with my old order number, shipping address and video of the failure showing how it needs to be soldering to be repaired. They sent me another $10 coupon and have already sent me a replacement part.
They sent a quick note appreciating my video and a few other notes.
All and all I have to say they've done a great job on the customer service side. I'm satisfied. AJ is still very happy with her set since it's only one power source that's down, there's other projects we can build without it.
Given that the part is $6 I may buy two more as back ups use my $10 coupon and pay the diff plus shipping. It really is an AWESOME building robotic electric set. Our main issue will really be her burning through 9volt batteries!
