New mommy with childcare $ question
Good morning! I am proudly brand new to this board. After years of struggling and loss I gave birth to our beautiful son this week. My Aunt is going to be caring for him when we go back to work in February. Every time I bring up paying her she tells me not to worry about it, we will figure it out. She will be coming to my home (10 minutes from her house) M-F. Monday and Tuesday is from 8-5 and the rest of the week from 8-3:30. I am a teacher so she would be off weekends, holidays and summer (unless I run into a jam). I really want to pay her a fair wage. She is retired and this will be her only source of her income. I don't expect her to clean or cook other than making and cleaning bottles. I have been getting a mixed bag of what I should be paying her so I figured I would get a few more opinions. I know its far off and I am soaking up every moment with my beautiful boy, but she will be over to visit often and I want to sit down and have the conversation so I know she is happy and that we can make other arrangements before we have to go back if she changes her mind. TIA!!

Re: New mommy with childcare $ question
I pay $5 an hour to my in-home daycare...she is there with several other children...I'm also a teacher, so she is there about 8 hours and only there on school days. I end up paying $40 a day...if she is retired and is making $300 a week off the books on top of her retirement, thats pretty decent.
If it was at my house with only my dd, I would expect to pay at least $10 an hour.

If you can afford it, $15 an hour. If you can't, whatever you can afford.

New mommy with childcare $ question
Since its family and she is retired I would say maybe 300-400 a week. Thats what you would be paying at daycare. I wouldn't expect to pay nanny rates of like 10-15 an hour.
Congrats!!!

New mommy with childcare $ question
Daycare rate is $300-$350 for a newborn. I'm assuming she is doing this to help you out financially maybe $250 a week.

I would give family 2-300 a week. I pay 300 a week for my sitter, and I most certainly wouldn't pay more for family.

Re: New mommy with childcare $ question
It's hard work being the full time care taker, especially one on one. So if she's resistant to accepting money explain how it's real work and she should be compensated. a nanny would get around $600 a week for those hours, so maybe since it's family and she isn't really doing this to make a living you could agree to something around $3-400

$250 a week max. I pay $300 a week for a daycare so I would figure having family help out would cost me less. I would discuss it with her before hand to make sure that you both have an agreed upon amount.

Re: New mommy with childcare $ question
Depends on both your situations. Does she need to pay rent or bills with this income? If so, I'd def count up how much you pay her per year. Keep in mind you are working 10/12 months.

Re: New mommy with childcare $ question
Thank you for all your responses! Yes, this would be her source of income. She retired a little early so SS isn't great. She is a wonderful, generous woman who people take advantage of regularly so I want to make sure it's fair. I think I'm going to tell her $350 with obviously more if we have to run somewhere after work. I'm so happy to finally be part of this board
