First birthday Party brunch or lunch?

What would you prefer for a first birthday party?

A brunch at 11 am with breakfast/lunch foods

or

an early dinner at 3 pm with the usual chicken parmesan, pasta, etc.

You can probably tell I am partial to the brunch because I think it's something different. Our Italian families always do the same Italian menus for parties and I'm so sick of it. Some older people in the family will not be thrilled with a brunch menu because all they eat is pasta, but I'm not sure I care.

Wed did a brunch for our DD and it included both breakfast and lunch/dinner items- so eggs, french toast, bacon, penne ala vodka, chicken parm etc. - it pleased all including our Italian families Chat Icon

Re: First birthday Party brunch or lunch?

This cracks me up because I would LOVE to do a brunch or something different but our 100% italian families would revolt (some in secret, others not so much...). For us, it's not worth it to be the gossip of the family (I know it soinds ridiculous but it is what it is...). Sooo.... If you're lucky enough to have an open-minded family, go with the brunch. If you feel you have to explain yourself to every relative in advance of them getting the invitation, go the path of least resistant (unless you are stronger than me, lol, then do the brunch no matter what!)

I did a brunch for my DS's 1st birthday and everyone LOOOOOVED it!!!! REALLY loved it!!!!! They liked having the party early and it was just something different from the usual party food. I started at 11:00 and I had so many different types of food. Some things I made were trays of cheesy scrambled eggs, homemade hash brown potatoes, tray of oven baked bacon, quiches, bagels, pastries, doughnuts, small boxes of cereal, fruit salad, yogurt parfaits, a make your own waffle station, homemade potato salad, a sandwich platter, cold pasta salad, breakfast sausage, and on and on. It was so yummy and so fun!! You should totally do brunch!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: First birthday Party brunch or lunch?

We did apps, pizza and pasta for DD's first. It was nice because it was different from the usually chicken, fish or steak and there was SO much food for people to choose from.
