Camera for daytrips or vacations

What do you use when you go away or even a day out at the park, etc?

We have an old Cannon that's huge my FIL gave me years ago. I use it for pics at home and take out once in a while, but it's big, clunky and heavy.
For the most part we use our phone when we do day trips like Great Adventure, apple picking, or any family events (when I remember to take pics... LOL)

Need recommendation for something not too big that I can throw in my bag.

Any recommendations or does something like that not exist and better use the Cannon and phone?

I just got the Canon Powershot Elph on Amazon for $109 for exactly this purpose. I wanted it so I didn't have to risk my phone filling up in the middle of an outing. It's small & you can just throw it in your bag & takes pretty decent pics & HD video

my iphone. DH brings his nikon for special events, but otherwise it's iphone. Any camera small enough to fit in your purse is going to be the same or similar quality to what your smart phone can do (if you have one).
