Where to stop en route to Washington D.C
We will be traveling from eastern L.I to washington around thanksgiving - not sure of exact days yet - we are going as a family not to meet up with anyone so are flexible with our timing. It looks like it could take us 6 - 6 1/2 hours but will probably be longer with all the holiday traffic. So where would you stop for a night en route? We will probably drive straight through on the way home but would like a stop over somwhere on the way down there.
Any ideas or tips for washington with two kids?
TIA

We drive to LI often from DC. We usually stop in Philadelphia or spend a night in NJ off of 95. We have stayed in Mt Laurel or Princeton area.

A little out of the way but I'd do philly. There stuff to do there. If not, the. Just anywhere along the drive just to crash.

Are you sure you need to stop? I drive from right outside of DC (about 20 miles north in MD) to East Islip multiple times a year with a 2 and 5 year old (and did it when they were 1/4, infant/3) by myself sometimes and we just charge through. We do it in 4 hours if we don't make stops when we leave between 6-6:30 in the morning. We're doing it Wed before and Sat after Thanksgiving and as long as we time it right it's pretty simple.

Hmm, we are driving the same time, and I didn't think it would be necessary to stop at some point and sleep over. I guess we will leave at like 6am to try to avoid the mess of traffic. I had plane tickets booked, but switched them to something else. Now I'm thinking I should've kept them! Loathe traffic.
